The Green Bay Packers have been one of the best teams in the NFL since Matt LaFleur took over as head coach three years ago. LaFleur has helped turn the Packers from a mediocre team to an NFC power, helping Aaron Rodgers reemerge into one of the top three quarterbacks in the NFL -- and arguably the best.
LaFleur is just one win away from matching George Seifert for the most wins by a head coach in his first three seasons in NFL history. Seifert won 38 games in his first three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers from 1989 to 1991, winning two Super Bowls and recording two 14-win regular seasons.
Having 37 wins in first three seasons, LaFleur doesn't have a Super Bowl appearance yet, but had two 13-win campaigns in his first two years. The Packers have reached the NFC Championship Game in LaFleur's first two years and have the best record in the conference at 11-3 this season.
LaFleur and the Packers host the Cleveland Browns on Christmas, then face the Minnesota Vikings on Jan. 2 (also at Lambeau Field). With wins in his next two games, LaFleur will pass Seifert for the most wins by a head coach in his first three seasons -- not needing the 17th game this season to reach the mark. LaFleur is 37-9 in his first three seasons as a head coach, as his .804 win percentage is the highest in the NFL since the start of the 2019 season and the highest in NFL history for any head coach that has coached 45 games.
Not only has LaFleur thrived since arriving in Green Bay, so has Rodgers in his offense. Rodgers has completed 66.7% of his passes for 11,788 yards with 104 touchdowns to just 13 interceptions and an 108.7 passer rating in his 45 games under LaFleur -- winning a league MVP in 2020 and arguably becoming the best quarterback in football once again.
LaFleur passed another 49ers coach, Jim Harbaugh, with his 36th victory in the Packers' triumph last week. He has an opportunity to catch Seifert and surpass him in the final three games.
