Top Josh Samanski News

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Scores in playoff debut

Samanski scored a goal on two shots in Wednesday's 6-4 loss to the Ducks in Game 2.

Samanski was inserted into the lineup, along with Curtis Lazar, to account for the absences of Adam Henrique (lower body) and Jason Dickinson (undisclosed). The 24-year-old Samanski was able to cash in a goal in his playoff debut, though it's unlikely he'll be a major factor on offense the rest of the way. He had four points, nine shots on net, 27 hits and 14 blocked shots over 24 regular-season outings.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Gets goal in win

Samanski scored a goal on one shot, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Canucks.

Samanski took a shot that pinballed in off a Canucks defenseman for the opening goal just 1:58 into the game. The 24-year-old forward has gotten lucky bounces for both of his NHL goals so far. He added two assists, nine shots on net, 27 hits, 14 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating over 24 appearances in the regular season. If Leon Draisaitl (lower body) or Jason Dickinson (leg) remain out for the start of the playoffs, Samanski should keep his place in the lineup.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Lucky bounce for first career goal

Samanski was credited with a goal in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.

Samanski's first goal didn't even come on his own shot. The Lightning won the puck out of a scrum, but a pass toward the net bounced over the defenseman's stick and evaded Andrei Vasilevskiy. Samanski hasn't recorded an official shot on net in his last eight games, adding little in the way of offense from a bottom-six role. He's at three points, two shots on net, 15 hits, six PIM and a plus-2 rating over 14 appearances as a rookie this year.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Up on emergency basis

Samanski was recalled from AHL Bakersfield by the Oilers on an emergency basis, the team announced Sunday.

Samanski was just sent down Friday, but with Adam Henrique (knee) now day-to-day, the Oilers were able to call Samanski back up on an emergency basis. The 22-year-old Samanski has two assists in six games on the season so far. Given Henrique's status, Samanski will likely have the chance to add to those numbers as soon as Sunday night against the Golden Knights.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Sent down Friday

Samanski was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Friday, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports.

Samanski was likely to have a tough time getting playing time after the Oilers traded for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. This move allows Samanski to continue developing with the Condors, while another veteran could be called up for forward depth.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Set for promotion

Samanski is expected to be recalled from AHL Bakersfield on Monday, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports.

Samanski will replace Andrew Mangiapane, who cleared waivers Monday, on the NHL roster. In his five appearances for the Oilers this season, the 23-year-old Samanski has generated two assists, four hits and one shot while averaging 9:21 of ice time.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Two points in Olympic win

Samanski scored a goal and added an assist, both on the power play, in Germany's 5-1 win over France in Olympic qualification round play Tuesday.

The 23-year-old Oilers prospect picked up his first points of the tournament while working on the power play with NHL teammate Leon Draisaitl. Samanski will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday's quarterfinals tilt against Slovakia.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Paper move to AHL

Samanski was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday.

This is functionally a paper move, as Samanski will spend the Olympic break in Italy representing Germany. The 23-year-old will need to play in one AHL game before being recalled to the NHL roster, but that's unlikely to happen until the NHL schedule resumes. Given Germany's underdog status, Samanski should have the time to get back to the Condors and get in a game before the Oilers face the Ducks on Feb. 25.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Earns first NHL point

Samanski registered an assist in Saturday's 7-3 loss to the Wild.

Samanski helped out on a Jack Roslovic goal in the third period. This was Samanski's first point in three games for the Oilers after his call-up Monday. He's added a plus-2 rating and two hits while filling a bottom-six role. The German forward will be representing his country at the Olympics, and he's gotten a taste of heightened competition in the NHL before heading to the tournament.

  • Oilers' Josh Samanski: Called up Monday

Samanski was recalled from AHL Bakersfield on Monday.

Samanski will switch places with Isaac Howard, who was sent down in a corresponding move. With his promotion, Samanski is poised to make his NHL debut versus the Ducks. In the minors this year, the 23-year-old center is racking up points, generating seven goals and 21 helpers in 39 outings. It's a well-timed call-up for Samanski before he joins Germany at the 2026 Winter Olympics.
