| Bears won't let Forte hit free agency: Bears team president Ted Phillips told ESPN that he does not intend to let RB Matt Forte test free agency this offseason. It is believed that if the team cannot agree to a long-term deal with him that they will franchise him. "We'd like to (work out a long-term deal with Forte)," Phillips said. "But as Phil pointed out we obviously will at least consider placing the franchise tag on him. We don't have any intention of letting Matt hit the open market. We'll sit down with him privately, Phil will, and discuss what the plans are prior to the Feb. 20 franchise tag date." (Updated 02/01/2012) |

| Forte hinted recently that he might hold out if the Bears franchise him. We've seen several running backs hold out only to struggle to play well at the start of the season. We've also seen running backs land huge contracts and slack off in their first year under those deals.(Chris Johnson ring a bell?) We'll see what happens with Forte but for now let's focus on the fact that his knee is fine (he played in the Pro Bowl) and he's in an offense that will continue to lean on him so long as he's a Bear. Forte is a solid No. 1 Fantasy RB worth a pick as soon as fifth overall. We'll keep you posted on his contract situation. (Updated 02/01/2012). |
