  • Saints' Tony Jones: Another quiet game

Jones recorded seven carries for 22 yards in Sunday's 30-20 win over Atlanta.

Jones worked as the Saints' second back with Mark Ingram (knee) sidelined for the second consecutive game. He earned seven carries, his highest total since Week 12. However, that resulted in only 22 yards, with his longest gain going for six yards. Jones racked up 54 total carries across 11 games this season, but with Ingram still under contract in 2022, Jones will likely begin the campaign in a depth role.

  • Saints' Tony Jones: Little output in Ingram's absence

Jones rushed once for minus-2 yards during Sunday's 18-10 win over the Panthers.

The absence of Mark Ingram (knee) seemingly pushed Jones into the No. 2 role at running back, but he only saw nine offensive snaps compared to 45 for Kamara and 20 for fullback Adam Prentice. Meanwhile, Kamara and quarterback Taysom Hill ended up handling 89 percent of the rushing attempts. Even if Ingram remains sidelined Week 18 against Atlanta, it doesn't seem as if Jones will have a workload that could lead to useful fantasy numbers.

  • Saints' Tony Jones: Bound for No. 2 role Week 17

Jones is expected to serve as the No. 2 running back behind Alvin Kamara in Sunday's game against the Panthers with Mark Ingram (knee) listed as questionable but not expected to play, Bob Rose of reports.

When Ingram was last sidelined Week 14 against the Jets after landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Jones played 19 snaps on offense (28 percent) and carried six times for 10 yards while catching his lone target for a 19-yard gain. New Orleans won that game comfortably (30-9), but if Sunday's contest proves more competitive, Jones may be at risk of seeing a lighter workload if the playoff-hopeful Saints opt to lean more heavily on Kamara.

  • Saints' Tony Jones: Totals 29 yards

Jones rushed six times for 10 yards while catching his only target for 19 yards during Sunday's 30-9 win over the Jets.

After being a healthy scratch Week 13, the absence of Mark Ingram (COVID-19) seemingly threw Jones back into the mix. However, Alvin Kamara ended up commanding the vast majority the workload en route to 31 total touches. Even if Ingram remains sidelined Week 15 against Tampa Bay, Jones isn't likely to serve in anything more than a reserve role.

  • Saints' Tony Jones: Surprise scratch Thursday

Jones (coach's decision) is inactive for Thursday's game against the Cowboys.

Even with Alvin Kamara (knee) sidelined for a fourth straight contest, the Saints will keep Jones in street clothes in this one. Instead, Mark Ingram is slated to handle the bulk of the reps out of the backfield, with wide receiver Ty Montgomery, fullback Adam Prentice and special teamer Dwayne Washington on hand for complementary work.

  • Saints' Tony Jones: Likely headed for reserve role

Jones is expected to serve as the Saints' No. 2 running back Thursday against the Cowboys with Mark Ingram (knee) in line to start in his return from a one-game absence, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Alvin Kamara (knee) sits atop the Saints' depth chart and is listed as questionable for Thursday's game, but Jane Slater and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported earlier in the day that the 26-year-old will ultimately be sidelined for a fourth straight game while he contends with a sprained MCL. The Saints won't officially confirm Kamara's status until he's included on the team's inactive list that will be released 90 minutes prior to kickoff, but his absence likely won't be enough to ensure Jones maintains a big role on offense. Jones started in last week's Thanksgiving Day loss to the Bills and carried a team-high 16 times for 27 yards, but he was afforded the opportunity only because Ingram joined Kamara on the inactive list. With Ingram having since returned to practice in full capacity this week, he'll be in the clear to serve in a lead role out of the Saints' backfield, just as he did in the first two games that Kamara missed. Jones was available for the second of those two contests, but he played just 10 snaps on offense and finished with three carries for two yards in the Saints' 40-29 loss to the Eagles in Week 11.
