Smyly (elbow) tossed a bullpen Saturday prior to the Mariners' game against Toronto, Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times reports.
The plan is for Smyly to throw at least five more bullpens before completing a simulated game. His initial session Saturday saw the southpaw throw 22 pitches, all of which were fastballs. Once Smyly has completed his bullpens and simulated game, he will embark on a rehab assignment before rejoining the Mariners sometime in mid July.
