Sorokin was fantastic in his second season with the Islanders, as he posted a 2.40 GAA and .925 save percentage. Perhaps with more team success, Sorokin could have earned some Vezina Trophy consideration. His save percentage was second in the NHL, and his GAA was fourth. If you like advanced analytics, his 29.8 goals saved above average were second in the league behind only Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers. Sorokin is clearly in line to be the starting goaltender for the Islanders next season regardless of whether Semyon Varlamov remains with the team.

Sorokin made 27 saves in a 6-4 loss to the Lightning on Friday. He allowed four five goals. Sorokin ended the season on a 2-4-1 skid, but he still managed to deliver a 26-18-8 record with a 2.40 GAA and .925 save percentage in 52 games started. Sorokin has emerged as the star starter that he was always predicted to be, and he should improve even further in 2022-23 behind a hopefully retooled Isles squad.

Sorokin is set to start Friday's home clash with Tampa Bay, per NHL.com. Sorokin is coming off a 32 save victory over the Capitals on Tuesday which brought a three-game losing streak to a close for the netminder. On the year, the Russian appeared in 51 games, taking the majority of the game over Semyon Varlamov. Looking ahead to 2022-23, Sorokin should continue to serve as the primary option between the pipes but is unlikely to lead the league in games played.

Sorokin was the first goalie off the ice at Tuesday's morning skate, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports, indicating he'll guard the crease on the road versus Washington. Sorokin has allowed three or more goals in four of his last five outings, with the lone exception a 44-save shutout versus the Canadiens on April 15. With a back-to-back coming up versus the Capitals and Lightning on Thursday and Friday, respectively, the 26-year-old figures to get at least one more outing this season and will look to add to his career-best 25 victories this year.

Sorokin made 30 saves in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Sabres. The second-year netminder saw the game get away from him in the second period as Buffalo scored three unanswered goals. Sorokin is stumbling toward the finish line on the season, allowing at least three goals in five of his last six starts and leaving him with a 2.38 GAA and .926 save percentage.
