Sorokin allowed two goals on 26 shots in Sunday's 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers. The Russian rookie improved to 11-3-1 with a 2.17 GAA and a .915 save percentage in 15 games this year. Sorokin has alternated starts with Semyon Varlamov over the last six games, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the latter start Thursday's game in Boston.
Sorokin will draw the start for Sunday's home contest against the Rangers, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. After giving up a combined 11 goals in his first three NHL appearances, Sorokin has established himself as a star in the making. The rookie netminder is 10-1-0 with a 1.77 GAA and .929 save percentage dating back to Feb. 16. His only start against the Rangers this season was his rough NHL debut, when he allowed five goals on 32 shots.
Sorokin stopped 25 of 27 shots Thursday in a 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers. Sorokin might want Philadelphia's first goal back -- he tried to blocker Nicolas Aube-Kubel's long-range shot but it deflected off his own shaft and into the net -- but he was otherwise sharp in earning his second straight shootout win. Sorokin went a perfect 5-for-5 during the shootout, denying Sean Couturier, Nolan Patrick, Claude Giroux, Travis Konecny and Joel Farabee. The 25-year-old Sorokin has won 10 of his last 11 starts dating back to the start of January.
Sorokin will protect the home net in Thursday's game versus the Flyers. Semyon Varlamov pitched a 29-save shutout in Tuesday's win over the Capitals, but the Islanders will go back to Sorokin in the blue paint. Sorokin certainly deserves it, as he's put up a .925 save percentage and a 4-1-0 record. The Flyers have been in a bit of a slump of late, losing seven of their last 10 games while averaging just 2.2 goals. Their defense has been suspect, too, raising Sorokin's fantasy floor Thursday.
Sorokin made 30 saves in a 3-2 shootout win over the Flyers on Saturday. He stopped four attempts in the shootout. After a wobbly start to the season, Sorokin has caught fire. He is 9-1 with two shutouts and the only blemish came last game against the Penguins, when he was yanked after yielding four goals on nine shots. Sorokin should be in your net if he's in the Islanders'. His efforts are catching eyes in the Calder race.
