UNC-Wilmington’s Kevin Keatts has reached an agreement to be NC State’s next coach, a source told CBS Sports on Friday.

A formal announcement is expected soon.

Keatts, 44, has been a Division I coach for just three years. But he’s widely considered to be a rising star in the business -- someone who took UNC-Wilmington to consecutive NCAA Tournaments. He’s 54-14 the past two seasons.

NC State interviewed Keatts early Friday and got a deal done quickly with the two-time Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year, a source told CBS Sports. He’ll replace Mark Gottfried, who was fired in February while the Wolfpack were on their way to missing the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season.
