Texas is headed to the SEC in a few months, but it would like to take one last remnant of the Big 12 with it by winning the conference's title game. The No. 7 Longhorns will match up with No. 18 Oklahoma State in the 2023 Big 12 Championship Game on Saturday. Any path for Texas to make the College Football Playoff requires a victory in the Big 12 Championship Game 2023, but the Cowboys have their own sources of motivation. They not only are hoping to win their first Big 12 Title Game but also want to win for all of those programs remaining in the Big 12 after the upcoming realignment.

Kickoff is at noon ET from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. These teams did not meet in the 2023 season, after having played in every previous year since 1996. The Longhorns are 15-point favorites in the latest Texas vs. Oklahoma State odds, per SportsLine consensus. The over/under is 56.5. Why Texas can cover

Texas has as complete an offense as there is in the Big 12, led by QB Quinn Ewers. He leads the conference in completion percentage and is second in passing efficiency rating, and the Longhorns still averaged 34 points per game during the two contests that Ewers missed. Picking up the slack is something the Texas backfield also did after losing leading rusher Jonathon Brooks late in the season. Texas ran for 302 yards in its last regular season game, averaging a season-high of 7.0 yards per carry in the 50-point win over Texas Tech.

That offense should exploit an Oklahoma State defense which is reeling. After allowing 24.3 PPG over their first nine contests, the Cowboys have given up 36.3 PPG over their last three -- all versus unranked teams. The Pokes also lack the offense to bail out the struggling defense as OSU has the same number of interceptions (13) as passing touchdowns. Starting QB Alan Bowman has two TD passes versus six interceptions over his last four games, and none of those defenses were as good as the one he'll see Saturday. See which team to pick at SportsLine

Why Oklahoma State can cover

Oklahoma State has won seven of its last eight games following a 2-2 start, booking its second-ever trip to the Big 12 title game. The Cowboys also made the title game in 2021, losing to Baylor. They have one of the nation's premier running backs in Ollie Gordon II, who ran for 250-plus yards in consecutive games and scored five rushing touchdowns in a game.

He leads the country with 1,580 rushing yards, so it will be difficult for Texas to get off the field defensively in a timely manner. Gordon's five-touchdown game came against BYU last week, becoming the first Oklahoma State running back since Barry Sanders to accomplish that feat. The Cowboys have covered the spread in six of their last eight games, and they beat Texas last season. See which team to back at SportsLine.
