Porcello enters his start Monday against the Phillies trying to find consistency with with his sinker, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. "There's been a constant and persistent focus on trying to regain the release and the action to his sinker," manager John Farrell said Sunday. "That's priority No. 1 and has been for him."

Porcello's record is 3-8 with a 4.46 ERA, and his two-seamer has been the main culprit. Seven of his 14 home runs allowed and 45 of the 104 hits he's given up have come off his sinker. Consistency with that pitch was a struggle for Porcello when he first arrived in Boston in 2015, but he appeared to solve the problem late that season and during his 2016 Cy Young campaign. Perhaps facing the Phillies, who average less than four runs per game, will help turn around Porcello's season.
