Niang (kneecap) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 Houston reports.
Niang had already been ruled out for Saturday against the Broncos, and it was also expected he would be out for the season after suffering a torn patella tendon in Week 17.
