Nearly all of the 2023 U.S. Open field will be competing at Los Angeles Country Club for the very first time when the tee times begin at 9:45 a.m. ET on Thursday. But a select few have prior experience, including many of the game's very best. Jon Rahm and Max Homa played the course during their Pac-12 days, while Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler competed there during the 2017 Walker Cup. Meanwhile, no golfer in the U.S. Open 2023 field may have as much course experience as Patrick Cantlay, as the Los Angeles native used it as his home course and has played it dozens of times.

All five of those golfers come in at 25-1 or shorter, with Scheffler topping the 2023 U.S. Open odds board at 13-2. Those odds are from Caesars Sportsbook, which has Rahm at 8-1, followed by Brooks Koepka (17-2) and Rory McIlroy (11-1). Before locking in your 2023 U.S. Open picks or entering any PGA DFS tournaments on sites like DraftKings and FanDuel, be sure to see the 2023 U.S. Open predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $10,200 on its best bets since that point, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure's best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, even though he hadn't won a PGA Tour event since 2018.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the 2023 U.S. Open field is taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected 2023 U.S. Open leaderboard.

Top 2023 U.S. Open predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the U.S. Open 2023: Max Homa, a six-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles this week and doesn't even crack the top 10. Homa is having the best season of his career and climbed to No. 7 in the world rankings, but even that wasn't enough to translate into impressive performances in the first two majors in the 2023 season.

Homa finished 43rd at the Masters and 55th at the PGA Championship this year. He's finished 40th or worse in 14 of 15 career majors. Homa is from California, so he will have a home crowd, but will it counteract his career struggles in majors? History hasn't been kind to Homa and the model doesn't seem a way his career results justify his 16-1 odds to win the 2023 U.S. Open. See which golfers to fade here.

Another surprise: Xander Schauffele, an 18-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. Schauffele is still searching for his first major, but the 2020 Olympic gold medalist has had his most success at the U.S. Open. He has five top 10s over his last six U.S. Open starts, which matches the number of top 10s he has at all other major championships over his entire career.

He's been just as consistent this year on tour, as he's coming off eight straight top 25s, with five of those being top-10 finishes. Schauffele has virtually no holes in his game, ranking in the top 12 in the strokes gained categories in regards to tee-to-green, approach the green and putting. Just three golfers have a lower scoring average than him this year (69.470), so his 18-1 odds make him a great value play for U.S. Open 2023 bets. See who else to pick here.

How to make 2023 U.S. Open picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with U.S. Open odds 2023 of 18-1 or longer who will make surprising runs, and McClure's best bets include a pair of huge 50-1 longshots who could win it all. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's 2023 U.S. Open picks here.
