Things did not start out well for Tom Brady at The Match: Champions for Charity as he had to pick his ball up multiple times on the front nine after scuffling around with partner Phil Mickelson. The pair went 3 down after six holes, but Brady hit the shot of the day (and maybe his life) at the par-5 7th.

Facing mounting (light-hearted) criticism of his golf game both on social media and in his ear from Charles Barkley, who was doing live commentary during The Match, Brady rolled his golf cart up to his shot and told Barkley, "Don't worry, it ain't over yet."

Approaching his third shot in the fairway, which was just 100+ yards away from the hole, Brady -- who had not hit an above-average ball all day -- hit his approach shot just past the hole and spun it back into the cup for an unbelievable birdie that juiced the match at a time when it needed juicing.

"Shut your mouth, Chuck. Take some of that medicine," Brady said after celebrating.

Unfortunately for Brady, a pair of splits followed. Brady split his pants while bending over to pick his ball out of the cup, and then he and Mickelson split the hole with Woods and Manning after Woods two-putted from distance (he narrowly lipped out an eagle bid).

Following the hole-out, Brady jumped on his microphone and started jawing at anybody who would listen --  Barkley, Tiger Woods, literally anybody. The entire 5-minute stretch was surreal considering how far out Brady was from the hole and how poorly he'd played up to that point.

The match features best ball on the front nine -- where Mickelson and Brady are laboring to keep up -- and then flips to alternate shot on the back nine, where Brady will have to pick up his game to keep his squad from getting vaporized.

The birdie hole-out was a great start, but Mickelson and Brady still have a lot of work to do.
