Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was involved in a scary-looking car accident Tuesday. He was listed in fair condition when he arrived at Carolinas Medical Center, and the Panthers announced that Newton sustained two fractures in his back.
Further testing revealed that Cam Newton has two transverse process fractures in his lower back and no further internal injuries.

Newton will remain in the hospital overnight for additional observation, and it's unclear when he will return to work. According to the Charlotte Observer, doctors don't think Newton suffered a head injury of any kind.
Team not commenting on anything football-related. But clearly could've been a lot of worse.

An interesting tidbit about Newton's injury:
FYI.. The transverse fractures in Newton's back.. essentially the same injury Romo had after hit in MNF game vs Washington

Tony Romo missed one game before returning from that injury.
