Terrelle Pryor switches to No. 2, JaMarcus Russell's old number

JaMarcus Russell lasted just three seasons and went 7-18 as the starter. Aaron Brooks, who also wore No. 2, was 0-8. So this move portends greatness for Terrelle Pryor.

For two seasons, Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor wore No. 6. On Wednesday, he donned No. 2, the same number he had at Ohio State. So what took so long?

"Coach won't let me wear No. 2. Why? I don't know," Pryor said, via the Oakland Tribune. "You tell me. I'm just going off what coach tells me."

That would be former coach Hue Jackson, who was fired after the 2011 season. And we're guessing that he didn't want Pryor wearing No. 2 because it previously belonged to arguably the biggest draft bust in NFL history: JaMarcus Russell.

"I had to do a double take," Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn told CSNBayArea.com about Pryor's new look. "Not only was it a new number, the jersey looked a little big on him."

Punter Marquette King wore No. 2 last season before landing on injured reserve. This offseason, he switched to No. 7. According to the Tribune, the only Raiders players to wear No. 2 during a regular season game are Russell, quarterback Aaron Brooks and punter Leo Araguz.
