San Diego Wave earn first points

The 2024 Challenge Cup winners San Diego Wave FC earned a win and their first points of the season. In their short NWSL existence, the Wave had failed to pick up a victory against head coach Laura Harvey and the Reign. That all changed Friday complete with late-night stoppage time drama.

Stuck in a scoreless deadlock with 10 minutes of stoppage time added due to lengthy VAR reviews, the home side cranked up the pressure, as midfielder Danielle Colaprico delivered a pass inside the box between several Wave players. Long-time NWSL midfielder Emily Van Egmond was there to slot the game-winner into goal and collect San Diego's first three points of the season.

Houston Dash spoil Bay FC opener

There was a sell-out crowd for Bay FC's inaugural home opener at PayPal Park but Houston Dash played villain to 18,000 hopefuls. Another match that went deep into stoppage time, along with a growing concern over lengthy VAR reviews, delivered must-see soccer in the Bay Area.

A five-goal scoreline, with four goals in the second half, offers plenty of questions to both squads for improvement. But sometimes winning is all that matters in the end, especially for a Houston side that had failed to score in two weeks. Forward Diana Ordoñez spearheaded the victory with two goals in the second half, and Havannah Solaun provided the game-winner in the 100th minute.

Here's where things stand in the league after week four of NWSL regular season action:
