Inter Milan have announced that they have agreed with Christian Eriksen to terminate the Denmark international's contract.

Eriksen, 29, has not played since collapsing while in action for the Danes at Euro 2020 in June and the midfielder has only recently returned to training with formative side Odense Boldklub.

Inter's statement added that "a strong and indissoluble bond will remain" but that Italian champions were unable to keep the Scandinavian due to Serie A not accepting players with an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) which was fitted after his cardiac arrest.

Eriksen has not yet confirmed if he will resume his career professionally, but AFC Ajax's Daley Blind is another player who continues to ply his trade professionally with a similar device fitted. Inter signed Eriksen from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2020 on a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Serie A title following just over a year later.

"The club and the entire Nerazzurri family embrace the player and wish him the best for his future," read Inter's statement. "The best moments, the goals and the victories, the embrace of the fans outside the San Siro in celebrating the Scudetto: everything will always remain fixed in the history of the Nerazzurri."

For now, Eriksen will continue to stay in shape in his homeland but is free to discuss potential arrangements with other clubs.
