Chicago placed Mack on injured reserve Friday, Larry Mayer of the Bears' official site reports. He'll undergo season-ending surgery on his left foot next week.

The Bears were hoping Mack could return after resting for a few weeks, but he apparently hasn't progressed the way they had hoped. He last played Week 7 and now finishes his eighth NFL season with 19 tackles, six sacks and one fumble recovery in seven games. Mack missed just two games through his first seven years in the league, and he should have enough time for recovery and rehab before Week 1 of the 2022 seaosn. He'll turn 31 in February, and his six-year contract extension has three seasons (but no guaranteed money) remaining.
