Daniel Susac SF C
Giants' Daniel Susac: Dealing with back issue
35m agoSusac exited Thursday's contest against the Athletics in the sixth inning as a result of back tightness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Susac was forced out of the game ahead of his at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, ultimately being replaced by Eric Haase behind the plate. Susac finished his day having gone 0-for-2 with a strikeout at the plate, and he is considered day-to-day ahead of Friday's series opener at home against Atlanta.

Wenceel Perez DET RF
Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Set to avoid surgery
1h agoTigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Perez won't require surgery for the left orbital fracture he sustained June 16, but the outfielder lacks a clear timeline for a return, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. "It's not, from what I understand, where it's going to be something long term," Hinch said of Perez's injury. "But it doesn't mean it heals itself fast. He's feeling better and better and reporting progress."
Perez suffered the injury prior to the Tigers' June 16 game in Houston, when he struck himself below the eye with an exercise band while taking part in a pregame workout. While he was fortunate to avoid surgery and isn't expected to have any long-term damage to his vision, Perez won't return from the injured list this weekend when first eligible, and his absence could very well extend into the All-Star break. The 26-year-old had been in the midst of a rough start to the season before suffering the injury, batting just .180 with seven home runs and three stolen bases over 53 games.

Parker Meadows DET CF
Tigers' Parker Meadows: Return not imminent
1h agoTigers manager A.J. Hinch said Tuesday that Meadows (forearm) has yet to resume hitting and is without a timeline to return from the 60-day injured list, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Meadows has been on the shelf since undergoing surgery April 13 to repair a radial fracture in his left forearm, which he sustained in a collision in the outfield. The 26-year-old appears to have made a full recovery from the concussion and mouth laceration that he also suffered in the collision, but due to the complex nature of his surgery, he remains limited to doing daily rehab while he waits for the fracture to heal. While Hinch indicated that Meadows hasn't hit any setbacks in the recovery process, a target date for the outfielder's return is unlikely to come into focus until he's able to take part in a full range of baseball activities.

Zach Brzykcy MIA RP
Marlins' Zach Brzykcy: Getting sent back down
2h agoThe Marlins are going to option Brzykcy to Triple-A Jacksonville prior to Friday's game versus the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Brzykcy was recalled to the Marlins on Monday, but did not appear in any games. It is the second time during the 2026 season that the right-hander will have been brought up by the Marlins and did not appear in any games before being sent back down. A corresponding move is yet to be revealed, but it is expected to be Max Meyer coming off of the bereavement list to start in Friday's series opener versus the Cardinals.
-
Connor Norby MIA 1B
Marlins' Connor Norby: Heading to Triple-A
2h agoThe Marlins are going to option Norby to Triple-A Jacksonville prior to Friday's game versus the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Norby has had a dismal June with a .194/.306/.290 slash line across 36 plate appearances. The utility fielder had been seeing a decrease in playing time in June, and now he will try to reset in Triple-A. A corresponding move is yet to be revealed.

Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Sitting Thursday
2h agoLindor isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
Lindor went 0-for-5 during his first game back from the IL in the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader, and he'll now step out of the lineup as the Mets ease him back into regular playing time following an extended absence. Ronny Mauricio will fill in as New York's shortstop and bat seventh.

Carson Kelly CHC C
Cubs' Carson Kelly: Idle Thursday
2h agoKelly isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Kelly has gone 6-for-15 with 10 RBI and nine runs scored across his last four games, but the Cubs will keep him on the bench to begin Thursday's contest while Miguel Amaya starts behind the plate.
-
Gabriel Moreno ARI C
Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Idle Thursday
2h agoMoreno is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Cardinals.
Moreno sat the series opener versus the Cardinals and then would go 2-for-6 with two walks and a RBI across games two and three. As he sits the series finale Thursday, Adrian Del Castillo has the start behind the plate and is batting cleanup.
-
Yainer Diaz HOU C
Astros' Yainer Diaz: Taking seat Thursday
4h agoDiaz is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Detroit.
Diaz started all three games at catcher in Toronto earlier this week, so he's earned a breather during Thursday's series opener. Christian Vazquez will be behind the dish and will bat ninth for the Astros.
-
Jimmy Crooks STL C
Cardinals' Jimmy Crooks: Sitting out third straight
4h agoCrooks is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks.
The left-handed-hitting Crooks didn't start the previous two days due to Arizona having a lefty on the mound. He's absent from Thursday's lineup because Ivan Herrera has been Michael McGreevy's personal catcher this season. Crooks had started six of seven contests prior to this three-game run with no starts, so it's been an inconsistent stretch of playing time for the rookie catcher.
-
Cooper Ingle CLE C
Guardians' Cooper Ingle: Getting outfield reps
7h agoIngle has recently begun playing left field for Triple-A Columbus to potentially carve out another path to the majors, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
The 24-year-old has been focusing on improving his defensive abilities behind the plate at Triple-A, but recent injuries to Jose Ramirez (hand), Chase DeLauter (ribs) and Angel Martinez (foot) have resulted in some major lineup holes for Cleveland. Ingle has now made seven starts in left field at Columbus and should continue to see time there as the Guardians weigh their options. Ingle has certainly been able to handle Triple-A pitching by posting a .284/.416/.551 slash line and 12 homers through 51 games this season, so a promotion could come soon if he proves to be a serviceable option in left field.
-
Connor Norby MIA 1B
Marlins' Connor Norby: Heading to Triple-A
2h agoThe Marlins are going to option Norby to Triple-A Jacksonville prior to Friday's game versus the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Norby has had a dismal June with a .194/.306/.290 slash line across 36 plate appearances. The utility fielder had been seeing a decrease in playing time in June, and now he will try to reset in Triple-A. A corresponding move is yet to be revealed.

Jake Cronenworth SD 1B
Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Kicking off rehab assignment
5h agoCronenworth (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.
Cronenworth has been on the concussion injured list since mid-April when he was struck in the chin by a pitch. With his symptoms finally abated, he's been cleared to test things out in a game setting. The length of Cronenworth's rehab assignment could depend on how he looks and feels, but since he's missed so much time, he'll likely need several games to knock off the rust.
-
Spencer Horwitz PIT 1B
Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Move to IL made official
8h agoThe Pirates placed Horwitz on the 10-day injured list Thursday due to a left hamstring strain.
Horwitz suffered the injury during Wednesday's win over the Mariners. The Pirates haven't provided word on the severity of the strain, making it difficult to forecast a timeline for Horwitz's return. Horwitz will be eligible for activation in early July, but with the All-Star break looming, the Pirates could proceed cautiously with the first baseman and keep him on the shelf until the start of the second half, even if his strain is mild.
-
Spencer Horwitz PIT 1B
Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Heading to injured list
10h agoThe Pirates are expected to place Horwitz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Horwitz was lifted from Wednesday's game against the Mariners because of left hamstring discomfort. It's unclear at this point how severe the strain is, but even a mild one could knock Horwitz out through the All-Star break. While Horwitz is sidelined, the Pirates will likely use Ryan O'Hearn at first base and Marcell Ozuna at designated hitter most days.
-
Luis Garcia WAS 1B
Nationals' Luis Garcia: Homers in third straight contest
12h agoGarcia went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Phillies.
Garcia opened the scoring in the first inning with a 412-foot shot off Aaron Nola, his 13th homer of the year and third in his last three games. In his last 15 games, Garcia's gone 14-for-48 (.292) with six homers and a 1.042 OPS. Overall, he's slashing .263/.293/.494 through 259 plate appearances this season with 49 RBI, 34 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
-
Rafael Devers SF 1B
Giants' Rafael Devers: Hits game-tying homer
19h agoDevers went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Athletics.
Devers tied the game at 1-1 with a ninth-inning blast off Elvis Alvarado. This was Devers' third homer in his last seven games, all of which have been solo shots. The infielder is now batting .239 with a .739 OPS, 12 homers, 38 RBI, 36 runs scored, 23 doubles and a triple over 79 contests this season, and he's yet to attempt a stolen base.
-
Ernie Clement TOR 2B
Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Back in action Thursday
4h agoClement (hip) will start at shortstop and bat second Thursday against the Rangers.
Left hip soreness forced Clement to miss four starts in the past six games, but he was able to appear as a pinch hitter Wednesday and will now return to the starting nine for Thursday's series opener. The 30-year-old infielder has fallen into a cold spell at the plate recently, going just 2-for-19 with a walk and a run scored across his last six games.
-
Marcus Semien NYM 2B
Mets' Marcus Semien: Shelved by hip flexor strain
6h agoThe Mets placed Semien on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a left hip flexor strain.
Semien played every inning of both legs of Wednesday's doubleheader but evidently picked up a hip injury in the process. It's not clear at this point how long the veteran infielder will be sidelined. Brett Baty will likely see the bulk of the reps at second base while Semien is out.
-
Luis Arraez SF 2B
Giants' Luis Arraez: Held out of lineup again Thursday
7h agoArraez (foot) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Athletics.
Arraez will miss a second consecutive start after he had to depart Tuesday's game when he fouled a ball off the arch of his right foot. X-rays were clean, but Arraez remains sore. He's considered day-to-day. Casey Schmitt will cover second base again for the Giants in Thursday's series finale.
-
Christian Koss SF 2B
Giants' Christian Koss: Begins rehab assignment
7h agoKoss (wrist) went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the ACL Giants' 9-1 win over the ACL Padres in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on Wednesday.
After being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on May 15, Koss fractured his left wrist and landed on the injured list. However, he began a rehab assignment in Arizona on Wednesday, logging two singles and an RBI over the first two innings before being lifted in the sixth. The 28-year-old infielder made San Francisco's Opening Day roster but slashed just .071/.133/.143 with a run scored in 15 plate appearances before being sent down.
-
Isiah Kiner-Falefa BOS 2B
Red Sox's Isiah Kiner-Falefa: Undergoing CT scan
9h agoKiner-Falefa will undergo a CT scan Thursday on his injured left forearm to check for fractures, Tim Healey of The Boston Globe reports.
Kiner-Falefa was placed on the 10-day injured list this past weekend, but the Red Sox wanted to wait for the swelling in the infielder's arm to go down before sending him for testing. Once those results are in, the team will have a better idea as to how much time Kiner-Falefa might miss.
-
Michael Massey KC 2B
Royals' Michael Massey: Not in Thursday's lineup
10h agoMassey is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays.
The Rays have a right-handed opener (Casey Legumina) followed by a left-handed bulk reliever (Ian Seymour) going in the series finale, so the left-handed-swinging Massey will take a seat. Josh Rojas is at second base and will bat fifth for the Royals.
-
Nolan Arenado ARI 3B
Diamondbacks' Nolan Arenado: On bench Thursday
2h agoArenado is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Cardinals.
Arenado is getting some rest for the first time in June after having started in every game during the month until Thursday. In June, the third baseman has slashed .173/.227/.247 with one home run and three doubles in 81 at-bats. Ildemaro Vargas is starting at third base and batting eighth Thursday.
-
Josh Jung TEX 3B
Rangers' Josh Jung: Taking seat Thursday
4h agoJung is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Toronto.
Jung -- who had started every game since May 26 -- went hitless during the Rangers' last series in Miami, so he'll get a day to regroup. Ezequiel Duran will play the hot corner in Thursday's series opener versus the Blue Jays.
-
Caleb Durbin BOS 3B
Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Back in Boston lineup
5h agoDurbin (finger) will start at third base and bat sixth in Thursday's contest versus the Yankees.
Durbin had to leave Wednesday's game against the Rockies due to a partial dislocation of his left pinkie finger. While Durbin's finger surely isn't fully recovered, he will attempt to play through the injury.
-
Junior Caminero TB 3B
Rays' Junior Caminero: Launches three homers in win
5h agoCaminero went 3-for-5 with three home runs and six total RBI in Thursday's 13-2 victory over the Royals.
Caminero opened the scoring with a two-run blast off Seth Lugo in the first inning and extended Tampa Bays' lead to 6-0 with a solo shot in the fifth. Caminero would then cap his huge day with a three-run shot off infielder Tyler Tolbert in the eighth. It's the first career three-homer game for Caminero, who's gone 12-for-31 (.387) with a 1.203 OPS in his last eight contests. The 22-year-old third baseman is now slashing .285/.377/.519 with 19 homers, 43 RBI and 49 runs scored across 342 plate appearances this season.
-
Zack Gelof ATH 3B
Athletics' Zack Gelof: Lands on 10-day injured list
7h agoThe Athletics placed Gelof (hand) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.
Gelof suffered a laceration and contusion when he got his hand stepped on in Tuesday's contest in San Francisco. The injury had seemed relatively minor initially, but Gelof ultimately was unable to avoid the IL. Max Muncy had seen a dip in playing time lately, but he should be back in the lineup on a regular basis while Gelof is sidelined.
-
Sean Keys TOR 3B
Blue Jays' Sean Keys: Still slugging since promotion
9h agoKeys went 2-for-4 with a walk, two home runs and four RBI for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old third baseman began the year with a .287/.419/.585 slash line and 14 homers in 49 games for Double-A New Hampshire, and since getting promoted to Buffalo in early June, Keys has kept right on slugging with a .288/.408/.712 line and six long balls in his first 17 games at Triple-A. A fourth-round pick in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Bucknell, Keys is knocking loudly on the door of the majors, but it's unclear where he might fit this summer on a Blue Jays roster that has Vladimir Guerrero at first base, Kazuma Okamoto at third and George Springer at DH.
-
Francisco Lindor NYM SS
Mets' Francisco Lindor: Sitting Thursday
2h agoLindor isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
Lindor went 0-for-5 during his first game back from the IL in the second half of Wednesday's doubleheader, and he'll now step out of the lineup as the Mets ease him back into regular playing time following an extended absence. Ronny Mauricio will fill in as New York's shortstop and bat seventh.
-
C.J. Abrams WAS SS
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Getting breather versus Sanchez
4h agoAbrams is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Phillies.
With ace left-hander Cristopher Sanchez toeing the rubber for the Phillies, the left-handed-swinging Abrams will begin the festivities on the bench. Nasim Nunez will slide over to shortstop for the Nationals, and Jorbit Vivas is getting a start at second base.
-
Corey Seager TEX SS
Rangers' Corey Seager: Reinstated from injured list
4h agoThe Rangers activated Seager from the 7-day concussion injured list Thursday.
Seager was sidelined for two weeks with concussion symptoms following a collision at home plate earlier this month. He skipped a rehab assignment, as the Rangers were satisfied with how Seager looked and felt in on-field workouts. Seager is sporting a disappointing .186/.284/.373 with nine home runs in 47 games this season.
-
Ronny Mauricio NYM SS
Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Back with big club
6h agoThe Mets recalled Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.
He's taking the roster spot vacated by Marcus Semien (hip), who was placed on the injured list earlier Thursday. Mauricio could see some action at second base while Semien is out, though Brett Baty is likely to be the primary option at the keystone. Mauricio is 7-for-32 with one home run and a 0:12 BB:K over 10 games at the big-league level in 2026.
-
Jacob Wilson ATH SS
Athletics' Jacob Wilson: Out of Athletics' lineup
7h agoWilson (shoulder) is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in San Francisco.
Wilson was forced to exit Wednesday's contest when he injured his left shoulder on a play at home plate. It's the same shoulder he dislocated earlier this season, costing him a month of action at the time. It's not yet clear whether the apparent aggravation of that injury will lead to another extended absence for Wilson, but the fact he wasn't placed on the injured list prior to Thursday's contest is seemingly a good sign. Alika Williams is filling in at shortstop in the series finale.
-
Alika Williams ATH SS
Athletics' Alika Williams: Up from Triple-A
7h agoThe Athletics recalled Williams from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.
The 27-year-old will return to the active roster as the replacement for Zack Gelof (hand), who landed on the injured list Thursday. Williams has been fairly productive during his time in the big leagues, slashing .289/.319/.467 with a homer, five RBI and six runs scored across 48 plate appearances with the A's. However, he'll likely be limited to a bench role while Max Muncy sees the largest increase in playing time with Gelof on the shelf.
-
Wenceel Perez DET RF
-
Parker Meadows DET CF
-
Juan Soto NYM LF
Mets' Juan Soto: Working as DH Thursday
2h agoSoto (back) will serve as the Mets' designated hitter and bat third Thursday against the Cubs.
Back tightness prevented Soto from playing in either game of Wednesday's doubleheader, and although the Mets are still holding off on returning him to the field, the fact that he's been cleared to work as the DH is an encouraging sign that the injury isn't bothering him too much. Soto was enjoying a hot streak at the plate before getting hurt, slashing .395/.509/.744 with four homers, eight RBI, eight runs and a 10:4 BB:K across his last 13 games.
-
Evan Carter TEX CF
Rangers' Evan Carter: Beginning assignment Friday
2h agoCarter (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Friday, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports.
A strained right oblique has kept Carter on the shelf since June 13, but he appears to be ready to test his oblique in a game setting, assuming he checks out fine after taking live BP with the Rangers on Thursday. He'll likely play his tune-up games at Triple-A Round Rock and could be back in the Rangers' lineup before the end of the month.
-
Seiya Suzuki CHC RF
Cubs' Seiya Suzuki: On bench Thursday
2h agoSuzuki isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Suzuki will get a chance to regroup Thursday after playing in both games of Wednesday's twin bill and going 0-for-10 at the plate with six strikeouts. Pedro Ramirez will fill in as Chicago's designated hitter and bat seventh.
-
Matt Shaw CHC RF
Cubs' Matt Shaw: Out of Thursday's lineup
2h agoShaw isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Mets.
Shaw will get a breather Thursday after going 8-for-31 with a homer, eight RBI and seven runs scored across his first 10 games back from the injured list. While he sits, Michael Conforto will pick up a start in right field and bat second.
-
Ryne Nelson ARI SP
Diamondbacks' Ryne Nelson: Moves to 60-day IL
3h agoThe Diamondbacks transferred Nelson (elbow) to the 60-day injured list Thursday.
Nelson landed on the injured list last Friday due to a flexor strain in his right elbow, and his move to the 60-day IL will ensure that he remains out until at least mid-August. The move also creates space on the 40-man roster for Max Kepler, who returned from his 80-game suspension Thursday.
-
Max Scherzer TOR SP
Blue Jays' Max Scherzer: Cortisone shot for side/back
3h agoBlue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Scherzer (back) will travel to Dallas on Friday to get a cortisone shot to "help alleviate some left side stuff," Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Scherzer landed on the 15-day injured list last week because of back spasms, and it seems his side discomfort is related to that. The veteran hurler threw another bullpen session Thursday, and he will return to Toronto following Friday's cortisone shot before the next steps in his rehab are determined.
-
David Sandlin CHW SP
White Sox's David Sandlin: Tapped for start Friday
3h agoThe White Sox will recall Sandlin from Triple-A Charlotte to start Friday's game against the Royals, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Sandlin has given up 12 earned runs in 13.1 frames with the White Sox this season, but he's logged a 2.45 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 11 innings at Charlotte since his last MLB appearance. The 25-year-old righty will now get another chance to showcase his talents in the big leagues but will likely make just the one start before returning to Triple-A, as Noah Schultz (knee) is expected to return from the injured list next week to fill the opening in Chicago's rotation.
-
Jared Jones PIT SP
Pirates' Jared Jones: Looks ready to go for next start
3h agoThe Pirates are listing Jones (elbow) as their scheduled starter for Saturday's game against the Reds, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Jones had to leave his last outing Sunday versus the Rockies after being struck by a comeback in the pitching elbow. All testing came back clean, however, and Jones appears ready to roll for Saturday's outing. The right-hander has been a little shaky in his five starts since coming off the injured list, posting a 5.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 21:8 K:BB over 20.1 innings. Jones hasn't thrown more than 77 pitches in any of those five starts and threw 45 on Sunday before departing, so his workload should be relatively limited Saturday.
-
Matthew Boyd CHC SP
Cubs' Matthew Boyd: Activated ahead of Thursday's start
3h agoThe Cubs activated Boyd (shoulder/knee) from the 15-day injured list Thursday, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Boyd will make his return to the Cubs' rotation Thursday with a start in Queens against the Mets. The left-hander has not started a game at the big-league level since early May, as he's been shelved by meniscus surgery and later because of shoulder soreness. Boyd tossed 59 pitches over four innings in his final rehab start, so his workload will be limited Thursday.
-
Dedniel Nunez NYM SP
Mets' Dedniel Nunez: Cleared for rehab assignment
4h agoNunez (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie on Thursday, Michael Mayer of MetsmerizedOnline.com reports.
Nunez is less than a year removed from undergoing Tommy John surgery but is already been cleared for game action. Barring any setbacks, the reliever appears in line for his season debut around the All-Star break. Nunez boasts a 2.82 ERA and 59:14 K:BB over 44.2 innings during his time with the Mets.
-
Zach Brzykcy MIA RP
-
Yimi Garcia TOR RP
Blue Jays' Yimi Garcia: Remains in holding pattern
3h agoBlue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Garcia (elbow) remains in a holding pattern due to neck and biceps nerve symptoms, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Garcia was initially sidelined following surgery last September to remove scar tissue from his elbow, but it seems his nerve issues are the bigger problem now. The 35-year-old reliever remains shut down for the time being and it's uncertain when he might be cleared to throw again.
-
Gavin Hollowell CHC RP
Cubs' Gavin Hollowell: Optioned to Iowa
3h agoThe Cubs optioned Hollowell to Triple-A Iowa on Thursday, Vinnie Duber of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Hollowell gave up a solo homer while recording two outs during his appearance Wednesday, and he'll now head back to Triple-A to make room on the active roster for Matthew Boyd (shoulder/knee), who is set to start Thursday's game.
-
Ben Brown CHC RP
Cubs' Ben Brown: Looking at extended absence
4h agoCubs manager Craig Counsell said Thursday that Brown has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his neck and will have limited activity for the next month, 104.3 The Score reports.
Counsell also noted that Brown's injury is "very similar" to the one the pitcher dealt with during the 2024 campaign. That year, Brown was sidelined in early June and wound up not appearing in another game for the remainder of the season. The Cubs will have a better idea as to Brown's timetable in one month, but the right-hander is looking at an extended absence.
-
Colton Gordon HOU RP
Astros' Colton Gordon: Sent back to Triple-A
4h agoThe Astros optioned Gordon to Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Gordon's stint with the Astros lasted only one day, and he did not make an appearance. He's clearing off the roster to free a spot for Bryan Abreu (personal), who is back from the restricted list.
-
Bryan Abreu HOU RP
Astros' Bryan Abreu: Returns from restricted list
4h agoThe Astros activated Abreu from the restricted list Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Abreu missed the series in Toronto earlier this week as he tended to a personal matter, but he's back for the weekend series in Detroit. Colton Gordon was sent down in a corresponding roster move.
-
Kyle Schwarber PHI DH
Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Back in lineup
4h agoSchwarber (back) will serve as the Phillies' designated hitter and bat second Thursday against the Nationals.
Schwarber missed back-to-back starts while dealing with lower-back tightness, but he was able to enter Wednesday's contest as a pinch hitter and drew a walk during his lone plate appearance. Now healthy enough to start, he'll look to remain hot after slashing .306/.425/.597 with seven homers through 20 games in June.

Dominic Canzone SEA DH
Mariners' Dominic Canzone: Absent from lineup
10h agoCanzone is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Pittsburgh.
Canzone returned to the lineup Wednesday following a one-day absence with a right hamstring injury, but he'll be back on the bench Thursday. He did not suffer any known setback Wednesday, so the Mariners are likely just giving Canzone a break for Thursday's matinee. Cal Raleigh is in the designated-hitter slot, and Mitch Garver will grab a start at catcher.

Kyle Schwarber PHI DH
Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Walks as pinch hitter
20h agoSchwarber (back) walked in his lone plate appearance during Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Nationals.
The All-Star slugger was out of the lineup for Philadelphia's past two games while tending to lower-back tightness, but he entered Wednesday's game as a pinch hitter and drew a clutch walk to set up Derek Hill's go-ahead two-run home run in the ninth inning. After coming off the bench, Schwarber appears to have a good chance of returning to the lineup for Thursday's series finale in Washington.

Will Wagner SD DH
Padres' Will Wagner: Sitting against southpaw
1d agoWagner is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.
Left-hander Martin Perez is on the bump for Atlanta, so the left-handed-hitting Wagner will head to the bench while the Padres go with Fernando Tatis at second base and Miguel Andujar at designated hitter. Since being called up from Triple-A El Paso on June 9, Wagner has staked his claim to a strong-side platoon role by producing a serviceable .276/.432/.310 slash line over 13 games.
