Jake Mangum PIT CF
Pirates' Jake Mangum: Back on bench Monday
6m agoMangum is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Padres.
The switch-hitting Mangum has cracked the starting nine in five of the Pirates' first 10 games, with three of those starts coming against left-handed pitching. Mangum should remain a regular presence in the lineup versus southpaws moving forward, but his opportunities to play against righties will likely be more sporadic while all of Bryan Reynolds, Oneil Cruz, Ryan O'Hearn and Marcell Ozuna are available to cover the outfield and designated-hitter spots.
-
Mookie Betts LAD RF
Dodgers' Mookie Betts: Improvement with oblique injury
11m agoBetts (oblique) said Monday that he already feels "light years ahead of where I thought I was going to be," Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.
Betts tweaked his right oblique in Saturday's game against the Nationals and landed on the 10-day injured list Sunday. It's an injury type that usually necessitates longer than a minimum stay on the injury list, but Betts' encouraging update Monday suggest he could be back before the end of April. Hyeseong Kim is handling shortstop for the Dodgers on Monday and will continue to get reps at the position while Betts is out, with Miguel Rojas, Alex Freeland and Santiago Espinal also in the mix.
-
Miguel Andujar SD RF
Padres' Miguel Andujar: Back to bench Monday
15m agoAndujar is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Andujar went a collective 4-for-11 with a pair of extra-base hits, a walk and two runs while occupying the designated-hitter spot in each of the Padres' last three games, but he'll take a seat in the series opener in Pittsburgh. Though Nick Castellanos will serve as the team's DH on Monday, he's managed a lowly .485 OPS through 17 plate appearances this season and could cede more opportunities to Andujar if he's unable to get going at the dish.
-
Jordan Westburg BAL 2B
Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Starting throwing progression
18m agoWestburg (elbow) will begin a throwing progression this week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
It's a major step for the infielder, but there remains no timetable for Westburg's return from a right UCL sprain. He is already on the 60-day injured list and thus not eligible for activation until late May. Coby Mayo has been filling in as the Orioles' third baseman and will continue to do so while Westburg is shelved.
-
J.P. Crawford SEA SS
Mariners' J.P. Crawford: Hitting bench Monday
21m agoCrawford is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.
After making his return from the injured list Friday, Crawford proceeded to start at shortstop in all three of the Mariners' games against the Angels over the weekend while going 1-for-10 with a double, three walks and a run scored. At least until the Mariners are ready to promote top prospect Colt Emerson (foot) to the big leagues, Crawford should have a fairly firm hold on the everyday shortstop gig, though the veteran will get a breather as Seattle opens its series in Arlington. Leo Rivas will slide over to shortstop Monday after covering third base Saturday and Sunday while Brendan Donovan tended to a groin injury.
-
Brendan Donovan SEA 2B
Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Rejoining lineup Monday
26m agoDonovan (groin) will start at third base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Rangers.
Donovan was held out of the lineup for the final two games of the Mariners' weekend series versus the Angels due to a left groin injury, but a couple days of rest appears to be all he needed to move past the issue. Leo Rivas had manned third base Saturday and Sunday but will slide back over to shortstop while Donovan slots back in at the hot corner.
-
Alejandro Kirk TOR C
Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Undergoing thumb surgery Tuesday
39m agoKirk will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair his fractured left thumb, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Kirk landed on the 10-day injured list this past weekend after being diagnosed with a fracture, and a visit with Dr. Thomas Graham on Monday led to a recommendation of surgery. That Kirk needed an operation to fix the fracture could lead to a longer absence, but more will be known regarding a timetable after Tuesday's surgery.
-
Ryan Jeffers MIN C
Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Getting breather Monday
1h agoJeffers is not in the lineup for Monday's tilt against the Tigers.
Victor Caratini will be behind the dish in Monday's series opener. Jeffers is off to a slow start offensively this season, going 4-for-24 without an RBI across his first seven contests. He'll get a day to regroup and should be back in the lineup Tuesday.
-
Liam Hicks MIA C
Marlins' Liam Hicks: Idle against southpaw
1h agoHicks is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Hicks has gotten off to a sizzling start to the season with a 1.164 OPS over 29 plate appearances, but the Marlins will shield the left-handed batter from southpaw Brandon Williamson in Monday's series opener. At least until the Marlins return the likes of Christopher Morel (oblique) and Kyle Stowers (hamstring) from the injured list, Hicks should have a clear path to regular at-bats versus right-handed pitching while making starts at catcher, first base or designated hitter.
-
Pedro Pages STL C
Cardinals' Pedro Pages: Not starting Monday
2h agoPages is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Nationals.
Pages will begin the contest on the bench as Ivan Herrera gets a start at catcher. The 27-year-old Pages has drawn starts in six of 10 games thus far and appeared off the bench in one additional contest.
-
Miguel Amaya CHC C
Cubs' Miguel Amaya: Playing time on upswing
4h agoAmaya will start at designated hitter and bat ninth in Monday's game against the Rays.
Amaya will remain in the lineup for the fifth time in six games, with three of his starts coming versus lefties and two coming against righties during that stretch. The 27-year-old has gone 5-for-12 with a pair of extra-base hits to begin the season, and his hot start appears to have helped him at least temporarily supplant Moises Ballesteros as the Cubs' preferred option at DH.
-
Nick Fortes TB C
Rays' Nick Fortes: Back in starting nine Monday
4h agoFortes will start at catcher and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
After taking a seat in favor of Hunter Feduccia in both of the Rays' previous two games, Fortes will be back behind the dish Monday in the team's home opener. Fortes has been the more productive of the Rays' two catchers in the early going, producing a .967 OPS over 27 plate appearances.
-
Kody Clemens MIN 1B
Twins' Kody Clemens: Out of lineup versus righty
1h agoClemens is absent from the lineup for Monday's tilt versus the Tigers.
It's the first time in five games against right-handed pitching this season that Clemens is not in the starting lineup. Josh Bell will handle first base, Byron Buxton will be the designated hitter and James Outman will grab a start in center field for the Twins.
-
Nick Loftin KC 1B
Royals' Nick Loftin: Sent back to Omaha
5h agoThe Royals optioned Loftin to Triple-A Omaha on Monday.
Loftin will cede his spot on the 26-man active roster to Michael Massey (calf), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. The 27-year-old utility player had appeared in four of the Royals' first nine games, going 2-for-9 with a double, two walks and three runs.
-
Pete Alonso BAL 1B
Orioles' Pete Alonso: Lacking in XBHs early on
8h agoAlonso went 1-for-4 with an RBI double Sunday in the Orioles' 8-2 loss to the PIrates.
After leaving the Mets over the winter and joining the Orioles on a five-year, $155 million deal, Alonso has gotten off to a slow start to his time in Baltimore. The veteran first baseman has struck out at a career-worst 33.3 percent clip through his first nine games, which has played a large part in limiting the career .253 hitter to a .229 batting average thus far. The low average would be more palatable if Alonso were hitting for power, but his double in Sunday's game was just his second extra-base hit of the campaign. Alonso's average exit velocity and hard-hit rate place him in the 93rd and 90th percentile, respectively, of all players in the early going, so fantasy managers should have some hope that the five-time All-Star eventually turns things around.
-
Jared Young NYM 1B
Mets' Jared Young: Three hits in win Sunday
18h agoYoung went 3-for-3 with a double in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Giants.
It was Young's fourth start of the season, and he figures to get regular at-bats against right-handed pitching while Juan Soto (calf) is sidelined. Soto remains day-to-day but missed the final two games of the series against the Giants. Young is slashing .385/.467/.538 with a pair of doubles, one RBI, two runs scored and a 2:2 BB:K across 15 plate appearances this season.
-
Christian Walker HOU 1B
Astros' Christian Walker: Hits another homer Sunday
19h agoWalker went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run and a walk in Sunday's 12-10 loss to the Athletics.
Walker hit a two-run homer off J.T. Ginn in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 5-5. It was Walker's second home run in as many days and second of the season. He's now slashing .324/.405/.649 with eight extra-base hits, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and a 5:7 BB:K across 40 plate appearances to begin the season.
-
Nick Kurtz ATH 1B
Athletics' Nick Kurtz: Reaches base five times, swipes bag
19h agoKurtz went 2-for-3 with a double, three walks, one run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's 12-10 win over the Astros.
Kurtz entered play Sunday in a 2-for-24 slump with a 6:13 BB:K to begin the season. Kurtz walked in the first, singled and stole his second base in the third, walked and scored in the fifth, hit a ground-rule double in the sixth for his first extra-base hit of the season and walked again in the seventh. Perhaps it will help propel Kurtz into a hot streak at the plate. He's now slashing .148/.361/.185 across 36 plate appearances and is still looking for his first home run and RBI of the season.
-
Jordan Westburg BAL 2B
Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Starting throwing progression
18m agoWestburg (elbow) will begin a throwing progression this week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
It's a major step for the infielder, but there remains no timetable for Westburg's return from a right UCL sprain. He is already on the 60-day injured list and thus not eligible for activation until late May. Coby Mayo has been filling in as the Orioles' third baseman and will continue to do so while Westburg is shelved.
-
Brendan Donovan SEA 2B
Mariners' Brendan Donovan: Rejoining lineup Monday
26m agoDonovan (groin) will start at third base and bat leadoff in Monday's game against the Rangers.
Donovan was held out of the lineup for the final two games of the Mariners' weekend series versus the Angels due to a left groin injury, but a couple days of rest appears to be all he needed to move past the issue. Leo Rivas had manned third base Saturday and Sunday but will slide back over to shortstop while Donovan slots back in at the hot corner.
-
Joseph Ortiz MIL 2B
Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Exiting starting nine
1h agoOrtiz is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Boston.
It looks to be a routine day off for Ortiz, who has now started seven of 10 contests at shortstop this season. David Hamilton will handle shortstop duties for the Brewers on Monday and Luis Rengifo will cover third base.
-
Ronny Mauricio NYM 2B
Mets' Ronny Mauricio: Recalled from Triple-A
2h agoThe Mets recalled Mauricio from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday.
He's taking the roster spot vacated by the injured Juan Soto (calf). Mauricio slashed only .226/.293/.369 across 61 contests for the Mets last season after missing all of 2024 recovering from knee surgery. He'll offer manager Carlos Mendoza another infield option, but Mauricio will likely operate mostly as a reserve.
-
Daniel Schneemann CLE 2B
Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Absent from lineup
3h agoSchneemann is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals.
Schneemann has served in a super utility role for the Guardians this season but will take a seat in the series opener versus Kansas City. Steven Kwan will slide over to center field and CJ Kayfus will get the call in left field.
-
Michael Massey KC 2B
Royals' Michael Massey: Brought back from IL
5h agoThe Royals reinstated Massey (calf) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Kansas City optioned Nick Loftin to Triple-A Omaha to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Massey, who was shelved to begin the season after suffering a mild left calf strain in early March during spring training. Massey proved his health in a three-game rehab stint with Omaha last week, during which he went 3-for-12 with a home run. He'll likely have to settle for a utility role with Kansas City and could struggle to see regular at-bats while the Royals have all of their key position players available.
-
Graham Pauley MIA 3B
Marlins' Graham Pauley: Idle against lefty again
1h agoPauley is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
The Marlins are facing off against a third straight left-handed starting pitcher (Brandon Williamson), so the left-handed-hitting Pauley will once again cede third base to Javier Sanoja. Despite being out of the lineup for Sunday's series finale against the Yankees, Pauley was able to come up big off the bench, delivering a two-run double in the eighth inning to give the Marlins the lead in their eventual 7-6 win.
-
Ben Williamson TB 3B
Rays' Ben Williamson: Remaining in starting nine
4h agoWilliamson will start at second base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Cubs, Ryan Bass of Rays.tv reports.
After being activated from the injured list, Taylor Walls (oblique) will cover shortstop in the Rays' home opener, but Williamson will remain in the lineup for a seventh straight game while shifting over to the keystone. Through his first nine games with the Rays, Williamson is hitting .281, but he's not offering much aid in other categories (zero home runs, one steal, seven runs and three RBI). Even so, Williamson's slick fielding and ability to hit for contact may be enough for him to stick around in a near-everyday role in the Tampa Bay middle infield.
-
Rafael Devers SF 3B
Giants' Rafael Devers: Logs RBI in defeat
5h agoDevers started at first base and went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Mets.
Devers played the field for the first time this season after previously serving as the designated hitter due to left hamstring tightness. The veteran infielder hit a go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning, driving in San Francisco's final run of the game. He recorded just his second RBI of the season Sunday and is now slashing .211/.286/.316 with a home run and an additional run scored across 42 plate appearances in 10 games.
-
Brett Baty NYM 3B
Mets' Brett Baty: Expected back Tuesday
7h agoBaty (thumb) is expected to be available for Tuesday's series opener against the Diamondbacks, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
The 26-year-old jammed his thumb Saturday and was a late scratch from the lineup Sunday, but the injury doesn't appear to be serious. Baty is still looking for his first homer of 2026, batting .242 (8-for-33) through eight games with two doubles, a triple, a steal, four RBI and six runs.
-
Taylor Walls TB 3B
Rays' Taylor Walls: Returns from injured list
8h agoThe Rays activated Walls (oblique) from the 10-day injured list Monday.
Walls got a late start to the season due to a right oblique strain, but he's been cleared to return to action after playing in some extended spring training contests. The slick-fielding Walls should take over as the Rays' primary shortstop, though the club will want to give Ben Williamson some reps at the position as well.
-
Ildemaro Vargas ARI 3B
Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Enters for injured teammate
9h agoVargas entered Sunday's game after first baseman Carlos Santana was removed due to a groin injury. Vargas went 1-for-2 with a walk, a triple and two RBI in a 6-5 extra-inning win over Atlanta.
Santana was done for the day in the second inning, and the two players that might normally have filled in at first base -- Jose Fernandez or Tim Tawa -- were already in the starting lineup. As such, manager Torey Lovullo turned to Vargas, who gave Arizona a lift. He tripled in two runs in his first plate appearance in the fourth inning and has hit safely in all four games in which he's played, going 6-for-11 with three extra-base hits and four RBI. Now that both Pavin Smith (elbow) and Santana are on the shelf, manager Torey Lovullo will roll with a rotation at first base that includes Vargas, Fernandez and Tawa.
-
-
Addison Barger TOR SS
Blue Jays' Addison Barger: Trending positively, but IL in play
42m agoBlue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Barger (ankles) is "trending in the right direction, but a stint on the injured list has not been ruled out, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Barger was forced to exit Sunday's game against the White Sox with bilateral ankle discomfort. He is absent from Monday's lineup versus the Dodgers, but with southpaw Justin Wrobleski on the mound, it's unlikely the left-handed-hitting Barger would've started even if healthy. Tyler Fitzgerald is with the Blue Jays on the taxi squad for now, but he could be added to the roster if Barger is unable to avoid the IL.
-
Angel Martinez CLE SS
Guardians' Angel Martinez: Heading to bench Monday
1h agoMartinez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Royals, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.
Martinez had started in either corner-outfield spot in five of the past six games and went just 2-for-14 at the dish during that stretch while chipping in a stolen base and three runs. The switch-hitting Martinez should have a good chance at sticking in the lineup against left-handed pitching on a regular basis, but his window for earning steady at-bats versus righties may have closed after Chase DeLauter was able to quickly move past the left foot injury that kept him out of the starting nine for just one game.
-
Masyn Winn STL SS
Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Remains out of lineup
2h agoWinn (hip) remains out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Nationals.
It's the third straight start Winn has missed after he exited Friday's game in Detroit with left hip tightness. Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday on Cardinal Territory that Winn will go through a full pregame workout to determine his availability off the bench. He remains day-to-day for now. Thomas Saggese is getting another start at shortstop in Winn's place.
-
Dax Kilby NYY SS
Yankees' Dax Kilby: Nursing injury at Single-A
2h agoSingle-A Tampa placed Kilby on the 7-day injured list with a hamstring strain, Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline reports.
Kilby suffered the injury during spring training but Callis notes that Kilby should return soon. Assuming he puts the injury behind him, Kilby could make waves in the lower levels of the minors this year after he hit .353 with 16 steals in 18 games at Single-A last year after getting drafted out of high school with the No. 39 overall pick.
-
C.J. Abrams WAS SS
Nationals' CJ Abrams: Homer streak ends Sunday
6h agoAbrams went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
While the shortstop saw his homer streak end at three games, Abrams still found a way to contribute for his fantasy investors. The 25-year-old has been locked in to begin 2026, batting .290 (9-for-31) through eight games with three homers, two steals, seven runs and 12 RBI.
-
Jake Mangum PIT CF

-
Owen Caissie MIA OF
Marlins' Owen Caissie: Sitting against another lefty
1h agoCaissie is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
Caissie has maintained an excellent .926 OPS through the Marlins' first nine games, but manager Clayton McCullough isn't yet ready to give the left-handed-hitting outfielder more opportunities against same-handed pitching. The 23-year-old will hit the bench for a third consecutive game while the Marlins face off against another lefty (Brandon Williamson), paving the way for Austin Slater to receive another start in right field.
-
Griffin Conine MIA RF
Marlins' Griffin Conine: On bench against lefty
1h agoConine is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.
The left-handed-hitting Conine will take a seat for the third game in a row while the Marlins face off against a third straight lefty starter (Brandon Williamson). Heriberto Hernandez will step in for Conine in left field.
-
Jake Cook TOR CF
Blue Jays' Jake Cook: Pro debut delayed
1h agoCook is likely sidelined through April with a hamstring injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.
The speedy lefty-hitting outfielder hasn't been assigned to an affiliate yet, as he's presumably waiting back in extended spring training in Florida while he recovers. Cook turns 23 in July, so he could get pushed to High-A Vancouver before season's end.
-
Shane Drohan MIL SP
Brewers' Shane Drohan: Receives call to Milwaukee
2h agoThe Brewers recalled Drohan from Triple-A Nashville on Monday.
Acquired from the Red Sox in February, Drohan turned in a strong spring for the Brewers (4.26 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 15:4 K:B in 12.2 innings), but he was unable to come away with a spot on the Opening Day roster. After beginning the season in the Triple-A rotation, Drohan didn't have to wait long to get his first call-up to Milwaukee. The 27-year-old southpaw will be a candidate to make starts down the road, but for the time being, he'll serve as a multi-inning relief option out of the Brewers bullpen. Milwaukee placed fellow lefty Jared Koenig (elbow) on the injured list in a corresponding move.
-
Jared Koenig MIL SP
Brewers' Jared Koenig: Goes on IL with sprained elbow
2h agoThe Brewers placed Koenig on the 15-day injured list Monday with a left elbow sprain.
The left-hander has been diagnosed with UCL damage but will attempt to rehab the injury, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He's expected to miss 2-to-4 weeks. Koenig has been very valuable out of the Brewers' bullpen since 2024, posting 2.62 ERA and 24.7 percent strikeout rate. His spot on the roster and in the bullpen will be filled by Shane Drohan.
-
Ty Johnson TB SP
Rays' Ty Johnson: Yet to make Triple-A debut
2h agoTriple-A Durham placed Johnson on the 7-day injured list due to a lower-back strain, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.
He isn't officially listed on the IL, but Dykstra's reporting coincides with the fact Johnson hasn't made his season debut yet, so we can consider Johnson out indefinitely. He is a controversial prospect, as his minor-league results have been outstanding but he's a righty who leans almost exclusively on his fastball and slider, so there are some detractors who believe he fits best in the bullpen long term.
-
Bryce Cunningham NYY SP
Yankees' Bryce Cunningham: Shelved at High-A
2h agoHigh-A Hudson Valley placed Cunningham on the 7-day injured list April 2 due to arm soreness, Jim Callis of MLB Pipeline reports.
Cunningham, the No. 53 overall pick in 2024, was excellent early last season before missing a couple months with a shoulder injury. He wasn't the same after returning and was also subpar in the Arizona Fall League (10.38 ERA in 13 innings), and the fact he is behind to start this season continues a worrying trend.
-
Sawyer Gipson-Long DET SP
Tigers' Sawyer Gipson-Long: Activated and optioned
2h agoThe Tigers activated Gipson-Long (oblique) from the 15-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Gipson-Long had made one rehab appearance with Single-A Lakeland, and the Tigers will keep him in the minors rather than return him to the active big-league roster. The righty made three starts and five relief appearances for Detroit in 2025, collecting a 7.18 ERA and 26:6 K:BB over 31.1 innings. Gipson-Long will join the rotation at Toledo.
-
Tyler Uberstine BOS SP
Red Sox's Tyler Uberstine: Goes back to Triple-A
2h agoThe Red Sox optioned Uberstine to Triple-A Worcester on Monday.
Uberstine was unlikely to be available to pitch for another day or two after tossing 2.2 innings and 45 pitches in relief during Sunday's loss to the Padres, so the Red Sox will send him back to the minors to clear room on the active roster for right-hander Garrett Whitlock (personal), who was reinstated from the paternity list. Once he's back in Worcester, Uberstine will likely settle back into the rotation after making his MLB debut out of the bullpen.
-
Josh Fleming TOR RP
Blue Jays' Josh Fleming: Moves up to majors
1h agoThe Blue Jays selected Fleming's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.
Toronto will swap Fleming into the bullpen in place of right-hander Austin Voth, who was designated for assignment after covering 2.2 innings in relief during Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox. Like Voth before him, Fleming is expected to serve as a multi-inning option out of the bullpen and is likely to see most of his usage in lower-leverage spots. Fleming last saw MLB action with the Pirates in 2024, logging a 4.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 31.1 innings across 25 appearances (three starts).
-
Austin Voth TOR RP
Blue Jays' Austin Voth: Dropped from 40-man roster
2h agoThe Blue Jays designated Voth for assignment Monday.
Just one day after being called up from Triple-A Buffalo, Voth will surrender his spot on Toronto's 40-man roster. The right-hander will be replaced by lefty Josh Fleming, whose contract was selected from Buffalo in a corresponding move. Fleming will provide the Blue Jays with a fresh arm capable of covering multiple frames out of the bullpen after Voth yielded one earned run on three hits and one walk across 2.2 innings during his Toronto debut in Sunday's 3-0 loss to the White Sox.
-
Garrett Whitlock BOS RP
Red Sox's Garrett Whitlock: Returns from paternity list
2h agoThe Red Sox reinstated Whitlock (personal) from the paternity leave list Monday.
Boston sent out right-hander Tyler Uberstine to Triple-A Worcester to clear room on the active roster for Whitlock, who spent the maximum three days away from the Red Sox while observing the birth of his child. The 29-year-old right-hander should return to a high-leverage role in the Boston bullpen.
-
Roddery Munoz HOU RP
Astros' Roddery Munoz: Dropped from 40-man roster
3h agoThe Astros placed Munoz on outright waivers Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
A Rule 5 selection over the winter, Munoz won a spot in the Houston bullpen coming out of spring training but will wind up losing his spot on the 40-man roster less than two weeks into the season after yielding seven earned runs over four innings across three appearances. Assuming he clears waivers, Houston will need to offer the 25-year-old righty back to Cincinnati.
-
Javier Assad CHC RP
Cubs' Javier Assad: Recalled, entering rotation
3h agoThe Cubs recalled Assad from Triple-A Iowa on Monday and will have him start Tuesday's game at Tampa Bay, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.
With Matthew Boyd (biceps) and Cade Horton (forearm) landing on the injured list within the past two days, the Cubs will turn to Assad to fill one of the two openings in the rotation. After falling short in his bid for a spot on the Cubs' Opening Day roster, Assad has made two starts for Iowa this season, giving up seven earned runs on 14 hits and six walks while striking out seven over seven innings. The right-hander has a much stronger track record over parts of four seasons in the majors, accruing a 3.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 9.6 K-BB% over 331 innings.
-
Pete Fairbanks MIA RP
Marlins' Pete Fairbanks: Goes on paternity leave
3h agoThe Marlins placed Fairbanks on the paternity leave list Monday.
The transaction was anticipated, as Fairbanks was used as an opener in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Yankees so that he could leave the team sooner in order to be with his growing family. Fairbanks will likely rejoin the active roster for Thursday's game against the Reds. Anthony Bender picked up a save Sunday and could get more chances this week while Fairbanks is away. Calvin Faucher and Andrew Nardi are also candidates to see save chances.
