Pederson went 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's 10-4 win over the Rockies. Pederson missed over three weeks with a hand injury. With the Giants taking control of the game early, he ceded his spot in the lineup to pinch hitter Wilmer Flores in the seventh inning. Pederson should be in the lineup as a strong-side platoon option at designated hitter going forward, but he's unlikely to play much versus southpaws. In that role, he's posted a .241/.366/.494 slash line with five home runs, 18 RBI, 13 runs scored, four doubles and a triple through 27 contests.... See More ... See Less

Giants' Joc Pederson: Activated from IL
Pederson (hand) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. Pederson will join the Giants in Colorado ahead of their three-game series with the Rockies, returning to the big leagues for the first time since he was placed on the 10-day IL on May 15. The lefty bat has compiled a .235 average with five homers, 18 RBI and 12 runs scored over 81 at-bats in 26 games with San Francisco this year and could return to a strong-side platoon at designated hitter. Pederson has logged just seven at-bats against left-handers so far in 2023, producing just one hit.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Likely to be activated Tuesday
The Giants expect Pederson (hand) to return from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's series opener in Colorado, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. On the shelf since May 15 with a right hand contusion, Pederson is nearing the finish line in his recovery from the injury after he headed out on a minor-league rehab assignment with Single-A San Jose this weekend. Assuming he comes out of Sunday's game with San Jose no worse for the wear, Pederson should reclaim a role with the Giants as a strong-side platoon option at designated hitter once activated.... Giants' Joc Pederson: Begins rehab assignment Saturday
Pederson (hand) will begin a rehab assignment Saturday with Low-A San Jose, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. Pederson will get a chance to face live pitching again after being placed on the IL on May 13 with a bruised right hand. The outfielder will likely need a few rehab games in the minors, but he could return as an everyday option for the Giants in the middle of next week.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Cleared to take swings
Pederson (hand) said he will swing the bat Monday for the first time since landing on the 10-day injured list May 15, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. A painful right hand contusion has kept Pederson out of commission for the past two weeks, but being able to resume swinging represents a major milestone in his recovery process. Depending on how Pederson fares in his workouts over the next few days, he could be cleared to head out on a rehab assignment as soon as this weekend, if the Giants determine that he requires one. While Pederson has been on the shelf, the Giants have been leaning on J.D. Davis and Blake Sabol as their primary options at designated hitter.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Unable to fully grip bat yet
Pederson (hand) was still unable to grip the bat at full strength as of Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Pederson had been aiming to return to the Giants on their current road trip, which began Monday in Minnesota and runs through the coming weekend, but that seems doubtful to happen. He was placed on the injured list May 15 due to a right hand contusion and the swelling has yet to fully dissipate.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Doing light baseball activities
Pederson (hand) is continuing his rehab and doing light baseball activities, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Pederson was placed on the injured list Monday with a bruise on his right hand retroactive to May 13, and he could end up seeing a minimum stay on the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Placed on 10-day injured list
Pederson was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right-hand contusion by the Giants on Monday, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Pederson hurt his right hand while squaring up for a bunt attempt against the Diamondbacks on Friday, and there wasn't enough progress made in the last few days for him to avoid a trip to the injured list. It could be a minimum stint for the outfielder, but he'll miss at least a week after being placed on the injured list retroactive to May 13. Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) came off the 10-day IL in a corresponding transaction.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Won't play Monday
Pederson (hand) will be unavailable for Monday's game against the Phillies, Danny Emerman of KNBR 680 San Francisco reports. Manager Gabe Kapler stated that Pederson is still too sore to take the field, and he'll miss his third consecutive matchup after being struck by a pitch on his right hand on a bunt attempt. J.D. Davis could once again man the designated hitter spot with Pederson out of commission.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Out again with hand injury
Pederson (hand) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Pederson will miss a second game in a row after he was hit in the hand during a bunt attempt Friday against Arizona. J.D. Davis will be the designated hitter while hitting cleanup, and Casey Schmitt will hit sixth as the starting third baseman. Pederson is considered day-to-day with a chance to return to the lineup against the Phillies on Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Dealing with right hand injury
Pederson is day-to-day with a right hand injury after being struck by a pitch during Friday's game against Arizona, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. X-rays returned negative. Pederson is out of the lineup after he took a pitch off his right hand while squaring to bunt Friday. The positive news is there's no fracture, but the outfielder will miss at least one game while he recovers. Wilmer Flores is acting as DH with Pederson out of the lineup.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Takes seat against D-Backs
Pederson is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Pederson takes a seat after homering and drawing a pair of walks while also being hit by a pitch against Arizona on Friday. The left-handed hitter was hit in the hand, so it's possible his absence is related to that occurrence. Wilmer Flores will be the designated hitter and hit second against Zac Gallen and the Diamondbacks.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Homers in loss
Pederson went 1-for-1 with a two-run home run, two walks and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks. Pederson opened the scoring with a two-out blast in the first inning. The 31-year-old has gone 3-for-9 with two homers, three RBI, four runs scored and four walks over his last four games. For the season, he's slashing .235/.351/.494 with five long balls, 18 RBI, 12 runs scored, four doubles and a triple through 97 plate appearances as a strong-side platoon option. He's played exclusively at designated hitter this season.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Sitting versus lefty
Pederson is not in the lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Wilmer Flores will serve as the Giants' designated hitter and bat second with left-hander Tommy Henry on the mound for Arizona. Mitch Haniger, Bryce Johnson and Michael Conforto are starting across the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Sitting against southpaw
Pederson is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Nationals. Pederson will take a seat as the Giants face left-hander Patrick Corbin on the mound Tuesday. Pederson has gone 1-for-7 with a double and three strikeouts against lefties in 2023. Righty bat David Villar will take over at designated hitter and bat sixth against Washington.... See More ... Giants' Joc Pederson: Crushes fourth homer of year
Pederson went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-1 loss against the Nationals. Pederson's 399-foot shot to left center finally put the Giants on the board in the bottom of the ninth. The long ball was a welcome sight for fantasy managers, as the former Dodger has just four home runs across 88 plate appearances thus far. Pederson's .224 average and middling .318 on-base percentage both have plenty of room for improvement, but his serviceable .447 slugging percentage is the byproduct of him lacing eight of his 17 hits for extra bases.... Giants' Joc Pederson: Sleeper hitters for Week 7 (May 8-14)
Joc Pederson pretty much only starts against righties, but the Giants are scheduled to face five of them in their seven games this week. He's always a threat for a home run binge and is facing some homer-prone pitchers in Jake Irvin, Josiah Gray, Ryne Nelson and Brandon Pfaadt.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Out of lineup Wednesday
Pederson is out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports. Pederson will begin Wednesday's contest on the bench with left-hander Framber Valdez on the mound for the Astros. Wilmer Flores will operate as the designated hitter and hit fifth in the final game of the three-game series against Houston.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Hits two-run homer in loss
Pederson went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's 7-3 loss to the Astros. Pederson's first home run since April 3 gave the Giants a 2-1 lead in the third. He continues to periodically sit out versus lefties and missed a two-week stretch due to a wrist injury, but his .255/.354/.509 slash line through 17 games is encouraging. During his first season with San Francisco last year, Pederson slashed .274/.353/.521 with 23 homers and 70 RBI across 134 games.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Joc Pederson: Sitting versus lefty
Pederson isn't starting Wednesday against St. Louis, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. With the left-handed Steven Matz starting on the mound for the Cardinals, Pederson will begin Wednesday's contest in the dugout. Michael Conforto will instead serve as San Francisco's DH, opening up a spot for Austin Slater to start in center field and bat leadoff.... See More ... See Less
