Cowboys' George Pickens: Team optimistic he'll sign tag
2h agoThe Cowboys aren't sure if Pickens will participate in the offseason program after they ended negotiations on a long-term contract, but the team is optimistic he'll sign his franchise tag before Week 1, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports.
Pickens likely was hoping for a multi-year deal with a signing bonus larger than his $27.3 million franchise tag. The Cowboys are hoping he'll respond to their direct approach, having informed agent David Mulugheta last week that they don't want to discuss a long-term contract and hope Pickens will play under his tag. For now, Pickens isn't technically under contract and thus can't be fined for missing practices or meetings. If he were to remain unsigned at the start of the regular season, he'd then miss out on $1.52 million each week until he signed and reported to the team. In the meantime, trade rumors are sure to swirl, especially given that this announcement comes on the eve of the 2026 NFL Draft. Pickens would have to sign his franchise tag to facilitate a trade, with any team acquiring him then having until July 15 to hammer out a long-term contract. That said, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones gave the impression that he expects Pickens to eventually sign his tag and play for the team in 2026.

Cowboys' George Pickens: Not negotiating long-term deal
5h agoCowboys COO Stephen Jones said Wednesday that Pickens will play out 2026 under the franchise tag, with no negotiations toward a long-term deal, Jonathan Jones of CBSSports.com reports.
It's unusual for a team to make this kind of announcement, especially with nearly three months remaining before the July 15 deadline for franchise-tagged players to negotiate contracts. Pickens hasn't signed his tag and thus can't be fined for missing team activities. The tag is worth $27.3 million, which means he'd miss out on around $1.52 million per week if he declined to sign before the start of the regular season. Pickens hasn't made public comments on the situation, but it's probably safe to say he isn't thrilled.

Quinshon Judkins CLE RB
Browns' Quinshon Judkins: Rehabbing at voluntary minicamp
6h agoJudkins (ankle) was spotted in uniform and rehabbing at the start of Cleveland's voluntary minicamp on Tuesday, Dylan Feltovich of USA Today reports.
Judkins' exact participation level is difficult to determine, with Camryn Justice of News 5 Cleveland reporting that the 2025 second-round pick participated in on-field activities in some capacity, while Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports that he monitored practice from a side field. In any case, Judkins' activity level during spring figures to be largely limited to rehab work as he recovers from surgery undergone in late December to address a dislocated right ankle. Ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft, Judkins projects as the leader of a backfield that also houses Dylan Sampson, Raheim Sanders and Ahmani Marshall, all of whom are second-year pros.

Shedeur Sanders CLE QB
Browns' Shedeur Sanders: First up for spring reps
7h agoSanders started Cleveland's first 11-on-11 team period at voluntary minicamp Tuesday, though he rotated reps with fellow QBs Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel, Kelsey Russo of the Browns' official site reports.
Sanders is firmly in the mix in Cleveland's quarterback competition, though there isn't necessarily much information to glean from the chronology of team drills at this stage in the offseason. That said, new head coach Todd Monken did note that "[t]he plan was to have [Sanders] have a few more reps, but to let Deshaun [Watson] and [Sanders] both have reps with the ones." Monken's comments essentially confirm assumptions that Sanders is entering spring workouts as the favorite for No. 1 QB reps over Watson, while Gabriel ranks closer to No. 3 on the depth chart, though things stand to be fluid given the ongoing nature of this positional competition. Across eight regular-season appearances (seven starts) as a rookie, Sanders completed 57 percent of his pass attempts for 1,400 yards, seven TDs and 10 INTs.

Jaylon Hutchings MIN DE
Jaylon Hutchings: Cut by Minnesota
18h agoThe Vikings waived Hutchings (undisclosed) with a non-football injury designation Tuesday.
Hutchings went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2024 and has yet to appear in a regular-season NFL contest.

Zach Tom GB G
Packers' Zach Tom: Underwent surgery on knee
18h agoPackers GM Brian Gutekunst confirmed Tuesday that Tom (knee) underwent surgery this offseason to repair a partially torn patellar tendon, Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Tom popped up on the injury report with a knee injury in December and ended up missing the Packers' final four contests of the 2025 season, including their wild-card loss to the Bears. The right tackle has started all 46 games in which he's appeared over the last three regular seasons.

Brock Stewart LAD RP
Dodgers' Brock Stewart: Moves rehab stint to Triple-A
2m agoStewart (shoulder) has had his rehab assignment transferred from Single-A Ontario to Triple-A Oklahoma City, per MLB.com.
Stewart appeared in two games for Ontario, allowing one hit while striking out three batters over 1.2 scoreless innings. He then debuted for OKC on Tuesday, fanning two batters across one perfect frame. It's not clear how many more rehab outings Stewart will need before being activated, but he appears to be progressing well and seems likely to be ready to join the big-league bullpen in the relatively near future.

Michael Wacha KC SP
Royals' Michael Wacha: Takes first loss
14m agoWacha (2-1) took the loss Wednesday against the Orioles, allowing six runs on seven hits and two walks over 5.1 innings. He struck out five.
After giving up a two-run homer to Pete Alonso in the first inning, Wacha would settle in and hold the Orioles scoreless over his next four frames. However, things would unravel in the sixth, when four straight batters reached safely against the right-hander, all of whom would come around to score. Wacha had been stellar prior to Wednesday -- he turned in quality starts in each of his first four outings, allowing just three runs across 27 innings. Wacha will carry a 2.51 ERA with a 0.93 WHIP and 28:10 K:BB into his next start, currently slated to come on the road against the A's.

Anthony Nunez BAL RP
Orioles' Anthony Nunez: Nets first save
25m agoNunez earned the save in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Royals, striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
With Ryan Helsley landing on the bereavement list ahead of Wednesday's game, it was Nunez who got the call with Baltimore up by two in the ninth inning. The right-hander made quick work of the Royals, striking out a pair en route to his first major-league save. The 24-year-old Nunez has gotten off to an excellent start in his rookie campaign, earning a high-leverage role in Baltimore's bullpen. His ERA is down to 1.46 with a 0.65 WHIP and 15:2 K:BB across 12.1 innings.

Luken Baker ARI DH
Luken Baker: Hitting open market
26m agoBaker elected to enter free agency Monday, per MILB.com transaction log.
Baker was initially outrighted to Triple-A Reno on Monday two days after being designated by the Diamondbacks for assignment, but the 29-year-old slugger will open the free market and look to take his talents elsewhere. He slashed .242/.395/.424 with one home run and five RBI across 43 plate appearances with Reno prior to his departure.

Spencer Horwitz PIT 1B
Pirates' Spencer Horwitz: Returning to action Wednesday
31m agoHorwitz (neck) is in Pittsburgh's starting lineup against Texas on Wednesday.
Horwitz was scratched from Tuesday's lineup due to neck discomfort, but he has been cleared to return for Wednesday's bout. The 28-year-old first baseman is slashing .255/.382/.400 with two home runs and five RBI over 68 plate appearances this season.
-
Alek Thomas ARI CF
Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Heading to bench vs. lefty
32m agoThomas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
The White Sox are sending left-hander Anthony Kay to the bump, so the left-handed hitting Thomas will hit the bench after starting in Arizona's previous three games. Jorge Barrosa will be included in the lineup in Thomas' place, batting ninth while occupying center field.

Peyton Watson DEN SF
Nuggets' Peyton Watson: Another absence coming
37m agoWatson (hamstring) is out for Game 3 on Thursday against Minnesota.
Watson will be sidelined for an eighth consecutive contest Thursday due to a left hamstring strain, and it's unclear if his return to action is at all imminent. The Nuggets should continue to lean more heavily on Christian Braun and Cameron Johnson while Watson is sidelined.
-
Aaron Gordon DEN PF
Nuggets' Aaron Gordon: Likely to play in Game 3
38m agoGordon (calf) is listed as probable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Timberwolves.
Gordon is dealing with left calf tightness but is still likely to suit up for Game 3 in Minnesota. Through two first-round games, the veteran forward has averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 33.0 minutes per contest.
-
Anthony Edwards MIN SG
Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards: Iffy for Game 3
1h agoEdwards is questionable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Nuggets due to right knee injury maintenance.
Edwards was listed as questionable ahead of Games 1 and 2, though he was cleared to play in both. In those two outings, he has averaged 26.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 blocks in 39.0 minutes per tilt. If the superstar is ruled out, Bones Hyland and Ayo Dosunmu would be candidates for expanded roles.
-
Ja'Kobe Walter TOR SG
Raptors' Ja'Kobe Walter: Iffy for Thursday
2h agoWalter (illness) is questionable for Thursday's Game 3 against the Cavaliers, Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun reports.
The series will shift to Toronto as the Raptors aim to avoid falling into a 3-0 hole, though they may be without Walter. If the second-year guard is ruled out, Jamal Shead and A.J. Lawson would likely see increased minutes, especially if Immanuel Quickley (hamstring) remains out.
-
Immanuel Quickley TOR PG
Raptors' Immanuel Quickley: Questionable for Game 3
2h agoQuickley (hamstring) is questionable for Game 3 on Thursday against the Cavaliers, per Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun.
The Raptors are giving Quickley a chance to return from a three-game absence with a right hamstring strain. His return would most significantly cut into the playing time of Jamal Shead and Ja'Kobe Walter, the latter of whom is also iffy for Thursday's pivotal contest due to an illness.
-
Thomas Bryant CLE C
Cavaliers' Thomas Bryant: Questionable for Game 3
2h agoBryant is questionable for Game 3 on Thursday against the Raptors due to a left calf strain.
Bryant is looking to end a six-game absence with the injury Thursday. The veteran big man would likely serve as depth at center if he's able to suit up for Game 3, though it's possible Max Strus would lose out on a couple of minutes if the Cavaliers occasionally opt to deploy bigger lineups.
-
Emil Andrae PHI D
Flyers' Emil Andrae: Not playing in Game 3
4m agoAndrae (upper body) will remain out for Game 3 versus the Penguins on Wednesday, Charlie O'Connor of PHLY Sports reports.
Andrae missed Game 2 as well, and he doesn't have a firm timeline for his return. That likely means Noah Juulsen will stay in the lineup for Wednesday's contest. Andrae will have a couple of days to work toward getting healthier before Game 4 on Saturday.
-
Sergei Murashov PIT G
Penguins' Sergei Murashov: Up from AHL
23m agoMurashov was recalled from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports.
Since Wilkes-Barre/Scranton has a bye through the first round of the AHL postseason, Murashov will spend a little time with the big club as a third goalie. The 22-year-old will likely be swapped out for a different netminder once the Baby Pens' playoff run begins.
-
Connor Ingram EDM G
Oilers' Connor Ingram: In goal versus Ducks
3h agoIngram will patrol the crease at home for Game 2 against Anaheim on Wednesday, per Derek Lee of The Hockey News.
Ingram gave up more goals versus the Ducks (three) than he has in his previous four outings, but he still walked away with the win. Overall, the 29-year-old backstop is 3-1-1 with an impressive 1.70 GAA in his last five outings. At this point, even if Ingram were to lose Game 2, he's earned himself enough leeway to get another start or two.
-
Lukas Dostal ANA G
Ducks' Lukas Dostal: Set to face Edmonton
3h agoDostal is expected to start on the road against Edmonton in Game 2 on Wednesday, per Derek Lee of The Hockey News.
Dostal stopped 30 of 34 shots in a 4-3 loss to Edmonton in Game 1 on Monday. The 25-year-old also struggled at the end of the regular season, going 2-5-1 with a 3.63 GAA and an .857 save percentage across his final eight appearances. He'll attempt to rebound Wednesday, but it will be difficult against the Oilers, who ranked sixth in goals per game during the regular season with an average of 3.44.
-
Billy Sweezey BOS D
Bruins' Billy Sweezey: Inks two-way deal
3h agoSweezey signed a one-year, two-way contract extension with the Bruins on Wednesday.
Sweezey's agreement for 2026-27 will come with a $850,000 cap hit if he plays in the NHL. However, the 30-year-old didn't play at the top level during the 2025-26 regular season, instead recording a goal, 17 points and 84 PIM in 69 appearances with AHL Providence.
-
Radko Gudas ANA D
Ducks' Radko Gudas: Will miss Game 2
4h agoGudas (undisclosed) won't play in Game 2 against Edmonton on Wednesday, per Ryan Rishaug of TSN.
Gudas recorded a shot, two hits and a block in 9:40 of ice time in Anaheim's 4-3 loss to Edmonton in Game 1 on Monday. The defenseman got into just four of Anaheim's final 17 regular-season games due to injury. Drew Helleson might draw into the lineup Wednesday because of Gudas' absence.
