Mitchell (groin) is doubtful for Friday's game against the Thunder. Mitchell sat out Thursday's game against the Rockets and will likely remain out for the second half of the back-to-back set. The 26-year-old returned from a three-game absence Tuesday against the Knicks and played 38 minutes but appeared to aggravate his groin injury late in the matchup, so it's not yet clear when he'll be able to return. Assuming he remains out Friday, Caris LeVert should continue to see increased run for Cleveland.... See More ... See Less

Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Will not play Thursday
Mitchell (groin) will not take the floor for Thursday's meeting with the Rockets, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. On Tuesday, Mitchell returned from a three-game absence due to the injured left groin and recorded 24 points, eight rebounds and eight assists across 38 minutes. However, with Thursday's contest being the opening leg of a back-to-back set, the Cavaliers will opt to give Mitchell the night off and not risk re-injury. Caris LeVert is the favorite to step into Mitchell's vacated spot in the first unit.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Officially questionable Thursday
Mitchell (groin) is questionable for Thursday's game against Houston, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports. Mitchell returned from a three-game absence Tuesday against the Knicks but appeared to aggravate his groin injury late in the game. He was unable to practice Wednesday, and it's unclear whether he'll be available a day later. If he's sidelined, Caris LeVert should reclaim a starting role.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Sits out practice Wednesday
Mitchell (groin) failed to practice Wednesday, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. After missing three straight games with a groin injury, Mitchell returned to action in Tuesday's loss to the Knicks but appeared to aggravate the groin issue during the Cavaliers' final possession of the game. Given that the guard failed to practice Wednesday, he should be considered questionable, at best, for Thursday's matchup against the Rockets until the Cavaliers officially release an injury report. Caris LeVert will likely step back into the starting lineup if Mitchell sits out.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Teases triple-double in return
Mitchell ended Tuesday's 105-103 loss to the Knicks with 24 points (9-24 FG, 6-14 3Pt), eight rebounds, eight assists, one block and four steals over 38 minutes. It was a heroic effort from the 26-year-old in his return from a three-game absence due to a groin injury, but he may have overdone it -- Mitchell struggled to get up after his final dunk attempt late in the game was blocked, and per Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com, he said after the game it felt like his groin had tightened up again. The Cavaliers play Thursday in Houston and Friday in Oklahoma City, so Mitchell could be rested for at least one of those games if he's not yet 100 percent.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Set to play, start Tuesday
Mitchell (groin) will play Tuesday against the Knicks and is in the starting lineup, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. The return of the All-Star guard will provide a massive boost to the Cavaliers on offense, and he will return following a three-game absence. He's averaging 30.0 points, 5.6 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game in January and figures to handle his regular workload.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Tabbed probable
Mitchell (groin) is likely to play in Tuesday's matchup with the Knicks, Danny Cunningham of 850 ESPN Cleveland reports. Mitchell appears to be on pace for a return from a three-game leave due to a strained left groin Tuesday after being listed as probable and logging a full practice Monday. His absence has allowed Caris LeVert to step into the first unit, but LeVert will likely slide back to the bench if Mitchell is active.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Full go at practice Monday
Head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said Mitchell (groin) was a full participant during Monday's practice, Evan Dammarell of FearTheSword.com reports. Mitchell has missed three straight games while dealing with a groin injury, but it appears he's nearing a return to game action. His official status for Tuesday's matchup against the Knicks will be known when Cleveland releases its next injury report, which should drop sometime Monday afternoon.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Out again Saturday
Mitchell (groin) will not play Saturday versus the Bucks. Mitchell is scheduled for his third consecutive absence while working his way back from an injury, leaving the Cavaliers' backcourt down one of its stars yet again. Look for Caris LeVert to draw another start in Mitchell's absence, while Mitchell will shift his focus toward Tuesday when the team begins a three-game road trip in New York for his next opportunity to suit up.... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Ruled out Friday
Mitchell (groin) has been ruled out for Friday's game against Golden State. Mitchell was questionable ahead of Friday's matchup but will be unavailable for a second consecutive game as he deals with a left groin strain. Whether he'll be available for the second half of the back-to-back set Saturday against Milwaukee remains to be seen, but Caris LeVert should see increased run against the Warriors.... See More ... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Tabbed as questionable Friday
Mitchell (groin) is listed as questionable for Friday's game against the Warriors. Mitchell was listed as doubtful ahead of Wednesday's clash, so his questionable designation for Friday represents an upgrade in his status. If he's unable to give it a go again, Caris LeVert may draw another start for the Cavaliers.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Officially out Wednesday
Mitchell (groin) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies. Mitchell was downgraded from questionable to doubtful for Wednesday's matchup, and he'll officially be unable to suit up against Memphis. Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens, Cedi Osman and Isaac Okoro are candidates to see additional run Wednesday, while Mitchell's next chance to play will be Friday against Golden State.... See More ... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Gets doubtful tag for Wednesday
Mitchell (groin) is doubtful for Wednesday's game versus Memphis. Mitchell has been downgraded from questionable to doubtful Wednesday due to a left groin strain he suffered in his previous game. Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens, Cedi Osman and Isaac Okoro are candidates to see additional minutes in his likely absence. If Mitchell is officially ruled out Wednesday, his next chance to play will be Friday's matchup with the Warriors.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Skips practice, iffy for Wednesday
Mitchell (groin) didn't practice Tuesday, and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff is uncertain if the shooting guard will be available for Wednesday's game in Memphis, Spencer Davies of BasketballNews.com reports. Mitchell's absence from practice comes as no major surprise after he didn't return to Monday's 113-103 win over the Pelicans after exiting in the third quarter with a left groin strain. Though the Cavaliers aren't yet ruling Mitchell out for Wednesday's game, he'll have to make the trip to Memphis and presumably take part in the team's morning shootaround that day without any major issues in order to get cleared to play. If Mitchell is out Wednesday, the Cavaliers are likely to turn to an assortment of players to fill his minutes, with all of Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens, Cedi Osman and Isaac Okoro being candidates to pick up additional run.... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Severity of groin injury unknown
Cavaliers head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said after Monday's 113-103 win over the Pelicans that he's uncertain of the severity of the left groin strain Mitchell suffered in the third quarter, Sam Amico of HoopsWire.com reports. Bickerstaff is scheduled to meet with the media Tuesday, at which point he may provide an update on Mitchell's status. Before missing the latter portion of the third quarter and the entire fourth quarter, Mitchell produced 11 points (3-9 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT), one rebound and one block in 22 minutes while turning the ball over four times. If MItchell isn't available for Wednesday's game in Memphis, point guard Darius Garland would likely benefit from heightened usage, and more minutes would be available for wing players like Caris LeVert, Lamar Stevens, Cedi Osman and Isaac Okoro.... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Questionable to return
Mitchell is questionable to return to Monday's game against the Pelicans due to a left groin strain, Spencer Davies of BasketballNews.com reports. Mitchell exits the contest having recorded 11 points, one rebound and one block in 22 minutes. If Mitchell is unable to check back into the contest, Darius Garland will take the reins on offense, while Caris LeVert and Cedi Osman could see some extra minutes.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Struggles in Saturday's loss
Mitchell provided 14 points (5-16 FG, 2-9 3Pt, 2-4 FT), three rebounds and six assists in 37 minutes during Saturday's 110-102 loss to the Timberwolves. Mitchell came into the game as questionable due to an illness but managed to play a team-high 37 minutes. While the fact he played is a good sign, managers may have actually preferred it if he took the night off given his subpar performance. He was woeful from both the field and the charity stripe, turning in one of his worst efforts of the season. The Cavaliers will host the Pelicans on Monday, and while Mitchell should be good to go, managers may want to keep an eye on the injury report just in case his symptoms flare up.... See More ... Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Available Saturday
Mitchell (illness) will suit up for Saturday's matchup with the Timberwolves, Chris Fedor of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Mitchell was added to the injury report with a non-COVID illness Saturday morning but is good to go for the contest. Although he remains a must-start option in season-long formats, daily managers may want to proceed with caution considering Mitchell may be facing physical limitations due to the illness.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Picks up questionable tag
Mitchell has been added to the injury report for Saturday's game versus the Timberwolves due to an illness. Late additions to the injury report usually don't bode particularly well, so it will be worth monitoring the star guard's status as the opening tip draws near. Unfortunately, the Cavs aren't part of the first round of tipoffs, so his status may not be officially determined before lineups lock, leaving fewer pivot options.... See More ... See Less -
Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell: Dazzles in return to Utah
Mitchell contributed 46 points (14-27 FG, 7-18 3Pt, 11-11 FT), six assists, five rebounds and three steals across 36 minutes during Tuesday's 116-114 loss to the Jazz. While playing in Utah for the first time since being traded to the Cavaliers in the offseason, Mitchell looked right at home again. He shot well from the field overall and scored 21 of his 46 points from beyond the arc, but it wasn't enough for Cleveland to pull off the win. He got off to a hot start by dropping 25 points in the first half, shooting 6-for-12 from the field and 4-for-9 from three while dishing out four assists. Mitchell is playing at a high level in January and is now averaging 39.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.5 steals in four games.... See More ... See Less
