  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Registers power-play helper

Hedman notched a power-play assist in Thursday's 6-2 loss to the Islanders. Hedman has racked up 12 points over his last nine outings. The 33-year-old's spot on the top pairing and first power-play unit are as secure as ever, with Mikhail Sergachev (leg) out for the rest of the regular season. Hedman's at 51 points in 50 appearances this season, already better than his 49-point campaign a year ago. The defenseman has added 102 shots on net, 58 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Hits 700 NHL points

Hedman picked up three assists in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Devils. His first helper was his 700th point. Only 29 defenders have achieved 700 career points in the NHL. Hedman heads into the All-Star break on a four-game, six-point scoring streak (one goal, five assists). He also has 50 points in 48 games, which is third on the team behind Nikita Kucherov (85) and Brayden Point (54). So much for all the speculation that Hedman's career was in decline after he posted just 49 points last season.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Four-point outburst leads way

Hedman scored a goal and added three assists in a 7-4 win over Minnesota on Thursday. It was Hedman's seventh career four-point game, tied with Roman Josi (Nashville) for second among active defensemen. Erik Karlsson (Pittsburgh) has 10 to lead active defenders. Hedman's goal came on a one-timer from the point in the first period to knot the game at 1-1. He's put up eight goals and 44 points this season in just 43 games. That puts him on an 80-plus point pace like he delivered in 2021-22. The 33-year-old has effectively rebounded from a 49-point season in 2022-23.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Adds two more helpers

Hedman notched a pair of assists in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Jets. Both of Hedman's helpers came on the power play -- he set up Steven Stamkos in the opening period and Nikita Kucherov late in the third. The 33-year-old Hedman now has four assists in his last two games and 11 helpers in his previous eight contests. The four-time All-Star is up to 38 points (five goals, 33 assists) through 37 games this season.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Three-game, five-point streak

Hedman had a three-assist night Thursday in a 5-4 win over the Golden Knights. Hedman is on a three-game, five-assist streak, and suddenly, he's at 32 points in 32 games. That's good enough for a tie with Evan Bouchard of the Oilers for fourth overall in NHL scoring from the blue line. Anyone still worried about a decline in the great Swede can park that thought. This is classic Hedman form.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Grabs helper in return

Hedman logged a power-play assist, three shots on goal, two blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Flames. Hedman missed the previous two games with an upper-body injury. He led all Lightning skaters with 24:41 of ice time in his return, so he should be considered virtually 100 percent going forward. The 32-year-old defenseman has 28 points (12 on the power play), 58 shots on net, 33 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating over 30 appearances this season as the Lightning's top blueliner.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Back in action

Hedman (upper body) will play Saturday versus the Flames. Hedman missed two games with the injury. His return to the lineup will mean Haydn Fleury is a healthy scratch. Hedman has 27 points, including 11 on the power play, over 29 appearances.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Out Tuesday

Hedman is dealing with an upper-body injury and won't play Tuesday versus the Canucks, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports. Krenn adds that the Lightning have designated Hedman day-to-day for now, leaving some hope he'll be ready to suit up Thursday versus the Oilers. With Hedman out, Haydn Fleury figures to be in the lineup while Darren Raddysh could be an option to pick up power-play time.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Game-time call against Canucks

Hedman (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision heading into Tuesday's matchup with Vancouver, per NHL.com. Hedman is off to a strong start to the 2023-24 campaign with 27 points through 29 games, including two goals and nine assists with the man advantage. If Hedman is unable to suit up versus the Canucks, Mikhail Sergachev should slide into a spot with the No. 1 power-play unit while Haydn Fleury should see the biggest uptick in ice time.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Can't finish contest

Hedman (undisclosed) didn't play after the second period of Saturday's game versus the Kraken, Eduardo A. Encina of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Hedman had a relatively modest 13:40 of ice time through two periods and wasn't available in the third or overtime. The 32-year-old had a hit, two shots on goal and a minus-2 rating in the contest. More should be known about his status ahead of Tuesday's game versus the Canucks. If Hedman can't play, Haydn Fleury should stick in the lineup, especially if Steven Stamkos (illness) is healthy enough to play in that contest.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Dials up two man-advantage helpers

Hedman registered two power-play assists in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Penguins. Hedman, who played his 1,000th NHL game Monday in a 4-0 win over the Stars, is in vintage form with five goals, 22 assists and 11 power-play points through 27 games. His 49-point campaign from 2022-23 actually qualified as a down year by his standards, but he's found his stride by averaging a point per game to this point.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Posts assist in loss

Hedman notched an assist and four shots on goal in Monday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche. Hedman has a helper in each of the last four games, and two of them have come on the power play. The 32-year-old defenseman set up Anthony Cirelli's goal in the last minute of the second period. It's been a return to high-scoring form for Hedman this season -- he's at 23 points, 41 shots on net, 22 blocked shots, 16 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 22 contests in 2023-24 after logging a mere 49 points in 76 outings a year ago.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Scores goal, assist Thursday

Hedman scored a goal on one shot and picked up an assist versus Chicago on Thursday. Hedman has four multi-point games in his last seven contests but had been stuck in a four-game goal drought before Thursday's tally. The blueliner's helper was scored with the man advantage, giving him six power-play points on the year. Despite some speculation that Mikhail Sergachev could replace Hedman on the No. 1 power-play unit, Hedman has continued to fill that role.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Another multi-point effort

Hedman collected two assists in Tuesday's 5-3 win over the Canadiens. Both points came in the first period as the Lightning surged to a 4-0 lead. Hedman has produced multiple points in three straight games. After a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, he's bounced back with a vengeance, amassing three goals and 16 points in 13 contests, including a goal and five points on the power play. If there's a concern with the 32-year-old's play, it's with his lack of secondary stats -- after delivering 95 hits and 136 blocked shots in 76 games last season, Hedman has only six hits and 18 blocks so far in 2023-24.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Maintains hot start

Hedman found the back of the net and recorded two assists in a 6-5 overtime loss to Toronto on Monday. It was Hedman's second straight multi-point game, giving him two goals and five points over that span. Through 12 contests this year, he has three goals and 14 points. Hedman is an interesting defenseman from an offensive perspective. He's always been steady, reaching the 45-point mark for eight consecutive campaigns from 2015-16 through 2022-23, and the blueliner has occasionally been among the league's top-scoring defensemen, such as in 2021-22 when he finished with 20 goals and 85 points. Hedman isn't as steady as Roman Josi or Cale Makar when it comes to raw offensive production though, and it's consequently harder to count on Hedman to maintain his early pace this year.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Rumors of decline exaggerated

Hedman picked up two assists Thursday in a 6-0 victory over San Jose. This season has been Hedman time. The big defender has nine points (one goal, eight helpers) in eight games so far, and he's been held off the scoresheet just twice. And right now, he's on a three-game, four-assist streak. Hedman even has three points on the power play. Rumors of his decline have been greatly exaggerated. Managers who took the chance on him on draft day are being rewarded handsomely.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Back to old self to start season

Hedman scored a power-play goal and added two assists in a 6-4 loss to the Red Wings on Saturday. Hedman has a goal and three assists in two games this season, and he's reprised his role as the quarterback on the top power-play unit, at least for now. Last season, Hedman saw his overall output and power-play production both decline dramatically with the rise of Mikhail Sergachev. The tables have turned to start 2023-24, so take advantage.

  • Lightning's Victor Hedman: Collects two helpers in Game 4

Hedman registered two assists in Tampa Bay's 5-4 overtime loss to Toronto in Game 4 on Monday. Hedman's first helper was recorded during a Tampa Bay power play. This was the first game of the series in which Hedman factored in offensively after he was held off the scoresheet in two contests and missed Game 2 due to an undisclosed injury. During the regular season, Hedman had nine goals and 49 points in 76 outings.

Hedman (undisclosed) will draw back into the lineup for Game 3 against Toronto on Saturday, Chris Krenn of the Lightning's official site reports. Hedman left Tuesday's outing after logging just 6:35 of ice time and didn't play at all Thursday. Now that he's back, the defenseman is projected to play on the top pairing alongside Nick Perbix. Hedman is a key part of the Lightning, providing nine goals and 49 points in 76 contests during the regular season while averaging 23:43.
