The Twins reinstated Thielbar (oblique) from the 15-day injured list Sunday. Thielbar will rejoin the Minnesota bullpen for the first time since early June after he recently completed a two-appearance rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul in which he struck out two over two scoreless innings. The left-hander was one of the Twins' top setup options in both of the previous two seasons, but he's been limited to just 10.1 innings at the big-league level in 2023 due to oblique injuries.... Twins' Caleb Thielbar: On track for activation Tuesday
Thielbar (oblique) will make a final rehab appearance for Triple-A St. Paul this weekend before rejoining the Twins early next week in St. Louis, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. The Twins have been without their key left-hander for nearly three months due to a nagging oblique issue. Thielbar has had one scoreless rehab outing for St. Paul and will have a final tune-up this weekend before being activated.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Starting rehab assignment
Thielbar (oblique) will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul on Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Thielbar has been limited to just one appearance since May 3 due to a pair of injured list stints because of a strained right oblique. He's finally game ready again and should be ready to rejoin the Twins' bullpen following a handful of rehab outings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Set for live batting practice
Thielbar (oblique) threw a bullpen session Thursday and will pitch live batting practice Saturday, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. The Twins are expected to make plans for a rehab assignment after Saturday's throwing session. It's possible Thielbar could return in early August.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Throws off mound
Thielbar (oblique) threw a bullpen session Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Thielbar threw 16 pitches during his session with a velocity of roughly 85 mph. He said afterwards that he was pleased with his performance, though there is still quite a bit of work yet to be done. Thielbar has been on the shelf since June 9 and is expected to return shortly after the All-Star break.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Begins throwing
Thielbar (right oblique strain) has started throwing, but is not expected to return until after the All-Star break, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Thielbar missed more than a month with an oblique strain and aggravated the injury in his first appearance back from the injured list. Expect the Twins to be cautious with his return as a result, so his comeback may stretch into late July.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Headed back to IL
Thielbar was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday with a right oblique strain, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Thielbar returned from the same injury this past weekend and made just one appearance before evidently suffering a setback. He missed more than a month with the issue the first time around. Josh Winder is taking Thielbar's spot in the bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Activated off injured list
Minnesota activated Thielbar (oblique) on Sunday off the 15-day injured list. Thielbar fired two scoreless rehab appearances with Triple-A St. Paul, and while he wasn't activated as expected before Friday's game against the Guardians, the left-hander will now get a chance to be a mid-innings option for the Minnesota bullpen. Cole Sands (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day IL in the corresponding transaction.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Still waiting to be activated
Thielbar (oblique) was not activated from the 15-day injured list Saturday as the Twins want to make sure he's fully healthy, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "It had been awhile since he had thrown, so we want to give him a couple of days," Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler said. Thielbar made two appearances at Triple-A and was expected to be activated from the injured list Friday. It's not clear how long the Twins will wait to activate him from the injured list, but it doesn't appear he's had any kind of setback.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Could return Friday
Thielbar (oblique) will be evaluated by the Twins on Friday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Thielbar has thrown two scoreless innings while on a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul. If all goes well during his evaluation, there's a good chance the Twins activate Thielbar off the injured list Friday. The 36-year-old reliever holds a 1.80 ERA across 10 innings and has been sidelined since May 5 with a right oblique strain.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Sharp again in rehab outing
Thielbar (oblique) tallied two strikeouts in a scoreless rehab inning Thursday with Triple-A St. Paul, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. Theilbar also worked a scoreless frame -- with one strikeout -- in his rehab debut Tuesday. Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Sharp in rehab outing
Thielbar (oblique) threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout Tuesday for Triple-A St. Paul during a rehab assignment. He's expected to throw again Thursday for the Saints, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. It sounds like Thielbar could be activated from the injured list as early as this weekend. He had a 1.80 ERA through 11 appearances this season with Minnesota when he suffered a right oblique strain in early May. He'll bolster a struggling relief corps when he returns.... See More ... Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Set for rehab assignment
Thielbar (oblique) is slated to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A St. Paul, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. Thielbar should be cleared to return to the Twins' bullpen after just a couple of tuneup outings at the Triple-A level. He was sporting a shiny 1.80 ERA through 11 appearances this season with Minnesota when he suffered a right oblique strain in early May.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Expected to throw off mound soon
Thielbar (oblique) has resumed playing catch and is expected to throw off the mound next week, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Thielbar is currently on the injured list with a right oblique strain, but the strain is considered "moderate" and it's a positive development he's back to throwing. It seems likely Thielbar will need a rehab assignment, but he could be back as an option for the Minnesota bullpen around the start of June.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Records seventh hold
Thielbar threw a scoreless inning with a walk while striking out two in Friday's 8-6 win over the Royals. He earned his seventh hold. Thielbar is off to a strong start to the season with a 2.25 ERA and 10 strikeouts in eight innings with two walks. He's working as the top lefty in the bullpen, but he may not be in the mix for saves since he's behind Jorge Lopez, Griffin Jax and Jhoan Duran.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Scoreless inning in season debut
Thielbar threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout in Thursday's win over Kansas City. Thielbar took over for starter Pablo Lopez in the sixth inning. Theilbar picked up where he left off last season when he posted a 12.1 K/9 and 15% swinging strike rate that was top 30 among qualified relievers. He'll reprise his role as Minnesota's top lefty reliever and will be used anywhere in the middle to late innings.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Agrees to terms for 2023
Thielbar signed a one-year, $2.4 million contract with the Twins on Friday to avoid arbitration, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Thielbar has been one of the most consistent pieces of the Twins' bullpen for the past three seasons, keeping his WHIP right around the 1.15 mark. The veteran southpaw will turn 36 at the end of the month, so it's worth questioning how much left he has in the tank. But for now, a 2.42 FIP keeps him in a nice position as one of Minnesota's top relievers.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Reinstated from injured list
Thielbar (hamstring) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports. He'll could make one more appearance in the minors but should be ready to return from the IL when first eligible Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Caleb Thielbar: Shifts to restricted list
Thielbar (not injury related) was placed on the restricted list Friday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
