  • Jalen Carter PHI DT
Eagles' Jalen Carter: Expensive fifth-year option
    15h ago

The Eagles picked up Carter's fifth-year option Monday, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

The cost to maintain Carter's services through 2027 comes at a hefty $27 million. The defensive tackle earned Pro Bowl honors in both 2024 and 2025, adding value to his fifth-year option. Carter missed multiple games due to various injuries last season, as well as being ejected in Week 1 for an incident involving him spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. When Carter was on the field, he produced 33 tackles (21 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and seven passes defensed over 12 regular-season games (really 11 since he was ejected before the first snap of Week 1).

Eagles' Nolan Smith: Fifth-year option excercised
    15h ago

The Eagles exercised Smith's fifth-year option Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Smith will earn another $13.7 million, guaranteeing his services to the Eagles through 2027. The linebacker is coming off a slightly disappointing season that was spoiled by a lingering triceps injury he originally suffered during training camp. Despite the issue, Smith still started 12 regular-season games, logging 31 tackles (15 solo), including 3.0 sacks. Headed into 2026 healthy, Smith will look to produce a year similar to his 2024 season (42 tackles, including 6.5 sacks), which would help greatly in long-term extension discussions with the organization.

  • Curtis Robinson DAL LB
Cowboys' Curtis Robinson: Signing with Dallas
    16h ago

The Cowboys signed Robinson to a one-year deal Monday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Robinson got a chance to prove his mettle in 2025 due to an injury bug that hit the 49ers' linebacker corps. The 27-year-old played 244 defensive snaps over 14 games last season, up from 83 snaps over 15 games in the first five years of his career combined. Robinson registered 42 tackles (19 solo) over that 14-game span and has proven to be a reliable depth option that will be able to produce for the Cowboys in 2026 if DeMarvion Overshown, Shemar James or Dee Winters are unable to suit up.

Cowboys' Tyler Johnson: Staying in Dallas
    16h ago

The Cowboys signed Johnson to a one-year deal Monday, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Johnson played in 12 games for the Jets in 2025, catching 12 balls for 197 yards and one touchdown. The addition of Marquez Valdes-Scantling means there is yet another wide receiver Johnson will need to outperform in training camp to remain on the active roster. If the 27-year-old can win a role, he likely will maintain his 2025 production level.

Saints' Tyree Wilson: Fifth-year option declined
    16h ago

The Saints declined Wilson's fifth-year option Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

As the seventh overall pick in 2023 Draft and a defensive end, Wilson's fifth-year option would have come in at $14.475 million. The pass rusher's career has been disappointing thus far in relation to the draft capital invested in him, so it makes sense that the Saints' trade acquisition is more of a one-year flyer on a once-promising and athletic player and not a commitment to pursue his future. If Wilson can revive his career in 2026 with a better season, the team may look to keep his services in New Orleans long term.

  • Cam Akers SEA RB
Cam Akers: Let go by Seattle
    16h ago

The Seahawks released Akers on Monday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports.

Akers played in six contests for the Seahawks in 2025. The running back was predominantly a special teamer in those games, playing just nine offensive snaps that resulted in five rushing attempts for 19 yards. With the team adding Jadarian Price in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft, Akers was likely pushed too far down the depth chart to validate keeping. The 26-year-old NFL veteran is now a free agent available to sign with any team that values his experience.

Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Bat coming around
    1m ago

Mayer went 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 5-0 win over Toronto.

Mayer's bat has come around over the last week. His batting average stood at .173 through the first 18 games played, but he's up to .243 with an 8-for-18 stretch that includes three doubles and four RBI over the last seven contests. All of his starts have come against right-handers, but interim manager Chad Tracy said Monday that he's open to giving Mayer opportunities against left-handers, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Red Sox's Carlos Narvaez: Extends hit streak
    18m ago

Narvaez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 5-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Narvaez clocked his second home in three games to extend a hit streak to six consecutive contests. During that run, the catcher is 7-for-20 with four extra-base hits, three RBI, one steal and three runs. The offensive push comes at a time when there was chatter about backup Connor Wong possibly grabbing more starts, but Narvaez remains the team's primary catcher, while Wong has gone 1-for-12 over his last four starts.

Rangers' Joc Pederson: Launches pinch hit homer
    34m ago

Pederson went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Pederson entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and belted a solo home run. It was just the second home run and third extra-base hit over 27 games this season for Pederson. He'll continue to serve as the designated hitter against right-handers, but the Rangers should be open to replacement options. Since signing with Texas in 2024, Pederson has slashed .192/.301/.633 OPS with 11 home runs over 123 games.

  • Josh Jung TEX 3B
Rangers' Josh Jung: Moved to second in order
    1h ago

Jung batted second and went 1-for-2 with two walks in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees. He was also caught stealing.

Jung, who's been on a tear lately, was moved to second in the order for the first time this season. He was the fourth different Ranger to bat second since Wyatt Langford (forearm) was placed on the 10-day injured list last week. Jung entered the night slashing .410/.442/.923 with four home runs and 11 RBI over the previous 10 games.

  • Daniel Schneemann CLE 2B
Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Goes deep in loss
    1h ago

Schneemann started at second base and went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Rays.

Schneemann gave the Guardians a lead with his fourth home run of the season in the fifth inning before the bullpen let it slip away. Since Gabriel Arias (hamstring) landed on the injured list and Brayan Rocchio was moved from second base to shortstop, Schneemann has at times stepped in at the keystone, which has been a problem area for Cleveland. That path to playing time, however, is about to be blocked. The club plans to call up prospect second baseman Travis Bazzana on Tuesday. That doesn't mean Schneemann and his .978 OPS won't find a near-everyday role in the lineup. He can defend three infield positions and has experience at all three outfield spots.

Guardians' Juan Brito: Expected to be optioned
    2h ago

The Guardians plan to option Brito to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

The Guardians plan to promote top prospect Travis Bazzana and are expected to clear a roster spot by optioning Brito, who had rocky first taste of MLB. After being called up to replace Gabriel Arias (hamstring) earlier this month, he slashed .176/.250/.255 over 15 games along with some defensive miscues. Bazzana is expected to become the team's primary second baseman and could remain there when Arias is ready to return.

  • Rudy Gobert MIN C
Timberwolves' Rudy Gobert: Neutralized in defeat
    2h ago

Gobert posted three points (1-2 FG, 1-1 FT), seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in 29 minutes during Monday's 125-113 loss to the Nuggets in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Gobert was able to pull down seven rebounds, but he made only two shot attempts and connected on one of them in the loss. A low point total isn't uncommon for the veteran, but his shot volume was conspicuously low. He's recorded fewer than three shot attempts just six times this season. Gobert has recorded a double-double during the series, so he has the ability to put the pieces together despite the imposing presence of Nikola Jokic. He'll need that improvement to keep the Nuggets from stealing another game.

  • Ayo Dosunmu MIN PG
Timberwolves' Ayo Dosunmu: Regressive impact in loss
    2h ago

Dosunmu closed Monday's 125-113 loss to Denver in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 18 points (7-14 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), three rebounds, four assists and one steal in 38 minutes.

The Timberwolves have relied heavily on Dosonmu amid absences from Anthony Edwards (knee) and Donte DiVincenzo (Achilles), and his results have often been the difference between victory and defeat. Although he was accurate from the floor, the Nuggets were successful in defending him and curtailing his production. A better result from Dosonmu will be essential in closing out this series.

  • Julius Randle MIN PF
Timberwolves' Julius Randle: Scores team-high 27 points in loss
    2h ago

Randle supplied 27 points (8-15 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 9-11 FT), nine rebounds, six assists and one steal across 32 minutes during Monday's 125-113 loss to Denver in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Randle carried a heavy load in the loss, as below-average totals from the rest of the starting five built up an unrecoverable deficit against the Nuggets. Unlike previous games in the series, Minnesota's defense was unable to restrict Nikola Jokic's production to an acceptable level, and the rest of the Nuggets provided balance behind the big man's masterful triple-double. Randle was able to find room on offense and did most of the work inside, while Rudy Gobert was rendered completely ineffective with only three points. The Timberwolves have successfully neutralized the Nuggets in the series, but they will need continued production from Randle and a better defensive effort to close out the series on Thursday.

  • Cameron Johnson DEN SF
Nuggets' Cameron Johnson: Steps up in Game 5 win
    2h ago

Johnson finished Monday's 125-113 win over Minnesota in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 18 points (8-13 FG, 2-7 3Pt), six rebounds, five assists and three steals over 36 minutes.

Johnson bounced back after tepid single-digit scoring totals in Games 3 and 4 against Minnesota. The trade for Johnson has been a net negative for the Nuggets. Michael Porter's voluminous totals this season with the Nets probably generate some buyer's remorse within the organization, but Monday's result was more in line with what was expected from the seventh-year pro. Denver has fallen behind in this series due to a lack of production from the supporting cast, and the balanced outcome from Johnson and Spencer Jones produced the desired result.

  • Spencer Jones DEN SF
Nuggets' Spencer Jones: Provides spark in fill-in role
    3h ago

Jones closed with 20 points (7-9 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, one assist, three blocks and three steals across 37 minutes during Monday's 125-113 victory over Minnesota in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.

Jones joined the starting five with Aaron Gordon (calf) out of commission, and the second-year pro recorded his second-highest scoring total of the season during the convincing victory. The Stanford product started in 37 of 64 games this season and has witnessed sharp increases in minutes, points, rebounds and assists during the 2025-26 campaign. Jones has finished with zero points twice during this series, and a return from Gordon in Game 6 could greatly diminish his fantasy prospects.

  • Jamal Murray DEN PG
Nuggets' Jamal Murray: Posts 24 points in victory
    3h ago

Murray ended Monday's 125-113 win over Minnesota in Game 5 of the first round of the Western Conference playoffs with 24 points (9-23 FG, 2-6 3Pt, 4-4 FT), four rebounds, seven assists and four steals in 39 minutes.

Although Murray converted only 39.1 percent of his shots, his secondary numbers helped him record a solid fantasy total. Murray's four steals matched a season high, and he recorded seven assists for the third time in the first-round series. A more accurate shooting evening will be needed from Murray to increase the team's chances of advancing.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Two-point effort in Game 5 win
    5m ago

Crosby notched two assists Monday in the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Flyers in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Both points came in the second period, as Crosby helped set up a tally by Connor Dewar, as well as the very fluky game-winner by Kris Letang that ricocheted home off the end boards. In between, Crosby briefly headed to the locker room to get his knee checked out after getting hit by a shot attempt by Ryan Shea, but he appears to have avoided anything serious. Crosby has gotten onto the scoresheet in three straight games, collecting a goal and five points during that span, and he'll likely need to come up big again in Game 6 on Wednesday if the Penguins are going to stave off elimination once more.

Penguins' Arturs Silovs: Keeps Pens alive with Game 5 win
    12m ago

Silovs stopped 18 shots Monday in the Penguins' 3-2 win over the Flyers in Game 5 of their first-round series.

The 25-year-old netminder did squander an early 2-0 lead, but once Kris Letang put Pittsburgh back in front with a fluky tally late in the second period, Silovs shut the door. He's won two straight starts since replacing Stuart Skinner in the crease, allowing four goals on 50 shots (.920 save percentage), and he'll look to keep rolling in Game 5 on Wednesday back in Philadelphia as the Pens try to stave off elimination once again.

Flyers' Rasmus Ristolainen: Two helpers in Monday's loss

Ristolainen picked up two assists Monday during the Flyers' 3-2 loss to the Penguins in Game 5 of their first-round series.

Both helpers came in the second period as Philly rallied from an early 2-0 deficit, with Ristolainen having a hand in tallies by Alex Bump and Travis Sanheim. Ristolainen has had a productive series, delivering a goal and five points in five games heading into Game 6 on Wednesday as the Flyers try again to punch their tickets to the second round.

Flyers' Dan Vladar: Bad bounce leads to Game 5 loss
    19m ago

Vladar made 18 saves Monday in the Flyers' 3-2 loss to the Penguins in Game 5 of their first-round series.

After falling into a 2-0 hole, Philly rallied for two goals in the second period to tie it up, but the momentum was short-lived. Late in the second frame, Kris Letang flipped a shot from the point that went wide of the net but then kicked off the boards, pinballed off Vladar's pads and trickled across the goal line for the game-winner. The 28-year-old netminder has yet to allow more than three goals in any game in the series, and he'll take a 2.03 GAA and .913 save percentage into Game 6 on Wednesday as the Flyers try again to advance to the second round.

Vejmelka will look to stay hot Monday after recording back-to-back wins in Game 2 and Game 3, respectively. He has now been called upon to start in all four games of Utah's first-round matchup. Vejmelka has fared well in the series with a 2-1-0 record, a 2.36 GAA and a .916 save percentage. With his 40th win between the regular season and playoffs behind him, the 29-year-old netminder will aim to win his ninth game over his last 12 outings dating back to March 28.
