These are the 200+ ex-Penn State players who want Joe Paterno's statue back
More then 200 former Penn State football players signed an official request for the statue's return
More than 200 former Penn State football players attached their name to a letter requesting that Penn State return Joe Paterno's statue to its place outside Beaver Stadium. The group believes that the statue and the players wall "should have never been removed in the first place," according to their group statement, and it was the Penn State administration that put Paterno in the middle of "an undeserved negative media frenzy in 2011."
In addition to calling for the Paterno statue to be returned to its original place, the letter calls for an official apology to Sue Paterno.
Penn State responded with a statement from a university spokesman. Judging by the statement, it doesn't sound like there will be a return of the statue any time soon.
"We appreciate the passion of our former Penn State letterman for Coach Joe Paterno and the football program, and thank them for their input and many contributions/achievements. We recognize that this is emotional for many in the Penn State community, many of whom differ, yet feel strongly about this issue," the statement read. "The University's leadership has clearly indicated that there will be a time and place to acknowledge Coach Joe Paterno's many contributions. Any plans by the president to reach out to the Paterno family will be done privately."
Ben Jones, terrific Penn State reporter and sports editor for StateCollege.com, has compiled the list of former players who are on board with the call to bring back the Joe Paterno statue. With a much higher percentage of older players -- ones who knew Paterno as an assistant (1950-65) or in his first years as a head coach -- supporting the cause, Jones found the perfect opportunity to crack a Brexit joke.
The demographics of this Paterno letter roughly mirror the Brexit vote demographics.

Jones even elaborated, noting that there are "more signatures from the 1950s than Penn State's last Big Ten title team."
