McGirt tops Curran in playoff to win 2016 Memorial Tournament
The Memorial was tied after 72 holes, and it took two more for William McGirt to defeat Jon Curran in a playoff at Muirfield Village
William McGirt and Jon Curran engaged in the third straight playoff at the Memorial Tournament, going two extra holes on Sunday at Muirfield Village. There had not been a playoff at this tournament from 1993-2013, and just like that we've now had three in a row. All three have ended with first-time winners taking home the prize.
This Sunday, it was McGirt who topped Curran as both fought for their first title on the PGA Tour. The first playoff hole (No. 18) ended par-par, but McGirt had to get up and down from what felt like forever away.
Here's a look at his ludicrous shot from the bunker after a bad approach. Pretty heady stuff.

Then on the second playoff hole (also No. 18 on the course), both men knocked their approaches over the green. McGirt hit his wedge to six feet while Curran mis-hit a flop shot to about 40. He saved bogey, but that set the stage for McGirt's six-foot putt uphill for the first win of his career. He buried it.
