Pablo Sandoval headed for history

DETROIT -- Pablo Sandoval made history in Game 1 becoming just the fourth player ever to clout three homers in a single World Series contest. Now, he's on the verge of making another kind of history. His third-ining base knock in Game 4 put him only one shy of tying the all-time record for hits in a single postseason.

Presently, Darin Erstad (2002), David Freese (2011) and Marquis Grissom (1995) all share the record with 25 hits each. One important point of distinction: Sandoval has tallied his hits in just 66 plate appearances thus far. Erstad, Freese and Grissom needed, respectively, 75, 71 and 68 plate appearances.

One more nugget: You can take his three homers from Game 1, turn them into outs, and Sandoval is still hitting .417/.462/.500 for the World Series. That's how productive he is right now.
