The Knicks relationship with Derrick Rose has been rocky, with issues ranging from him going AWOL last season, inconsistent play and his general lack of fit on the roster. New York has been trying to decide if it's best to re-sign Rose, see if there is a trade market or let him walk in free agency.

GM Steve Mills reportedly is against bringing Rose back and would rather focus on younger players. New York has been hesitant to commit to a full rebuild, though that could be where they're heading. According to ESPN, the Knicks have considered taking Rose and flipping him to someone else for assets. Rose plans to meet with the Bucks on Monday. Milwaukee wants to create cap space, so there could be a mutual interest.

Flipping Rose for assets would be a good step to start a rebuild. Instead of letting Rose walk for nothing they could turn him into a second round pick or take on a salary another team didn't want. Rose hasn't worked out in New York, but maybe another season somewhere else in a different role will do well for him. Injuries and time leave Rose nowhere close to the player he used to be. Perhaps a smaller role would be beneficial, if he's willing to accept it.
