It must be June because Rex Ryan wants LeBron James to be the Bills' tight end
Maybe LeBron will head to Buffalo once the Cavs are done losing in the NBA finals
In a shocking new development, a coach believes LeBron James could thrive in the NFL as a tight end. So, when the Cavaliers are done losing in the NBA Finals to the Warriors, LeBron might want to head on over to Buffalo.
Rex Ryan wants LeBron to play tight end for the Bills. He also called him a "rascal," which isn't really how I'd describe one of the greatest basketball players ever, but we'll let that slide.
"That big, ol' rascal can come play tight end for us if he wants to," Ryan said Wednesday, per the Buffalo News.
For Ryan, mentioning LeBron is becoming an annual event. Almost exactly a year ago, Ryan compared his quarterback situation to the two-time NBA champ and four-time MVP.
"It's safe to say we won't have LeBron at quarterback," Ryan said last June, when a reporter asked him which quarterback was going to be the Bills' LeBron. "We may have LeBron at defensive tackle and at defensive end but we don't have him at quarterback."

Now, he wants a LeBron at tight end. His current top tight end, though, isn't all too bad. Charles Clay caught 51 passes for 528 yards, and three touchdowns last year. Those aren't exactly Gronk-like numbers, but they're still productive. Besides, LeBron's NFL window has probably passed. He's already 31 and has logged 38,478 minutes in the NBA.
Still, Ryan said everything about LeBron would make him an effective tight end.
"Everything," Ryan said. "I mean, you look at him. He's physical. Look at the range. There's no way you can cover him. Fast, physical.
"We'll give it a shot."
Unfortunately, money (to name one factor) might prevent LeBron from making the transition. According to Spotrac, LeBron earned a base salary of nearly $23 million this past season. As it stands, the Seahawks' Jimmy Graham leads all tight ends with a 2016 cap hit of $9 million.
"I don't know if he'd quite make that money that he's making now," Ryan said, "might have to take a step back (financially), but ..."
I can finish that sentence for Rex: but ... the Bills and LeBron are a perfect match. Both sides know a thing or two (or four) about losing championship games.
