Maximus. Achilles. Optimus Prime. William Wallace. Batman. King Leonidas.

What do all these guys have in common? Carolina Panthers star cornerback Josh Norman has gone method actor to pretend to be each of them on the field during a game at least once.

From this incredible Norman story by The Wall Street Journal's Kevin Clark, Norman channeled these characters in the following circumstances:

  • Maximus (Russell Crowe's character in Gladiator) for an early season game against the Bucs
  • Achilles (the Greek mythological figure once portated by Brad Pitt in Troy) for Carolina's game against the Saints
  • Optimus Prime (the rival of Megatron in the Transformers movies) for a 2014 game againsr Calvin Johnson of the Lions
  • William Wallace (the Scottish knight portratyed by Mel Gibson in Braveheart) against an unspecified team
  • Batman against the Colts (because he compared Charlotte's rain to that of Gotham City)
  • Leonidas against Dez Bryant and the Cowboy

(Please click through to that story. It includes pictures of Norman doing various poses of the characters he's portraying. Dude really goes all out. It's awesome.)

Given that history, it's reasonable that the Atlanta media contingent asked Norman about which character he portrayed last week against the Saints and which he will be on Sunday against the Falcons.

Might I suggest Mr. Freeze? I mean, Matt Ryan's nickname is Matty Ice. It would be fitting.

Josh Norman maybe, but also maybe not, getting into character. (USTASI)
