Lions left tackle Taylor Decker has shoulder surgery, no timetable for return
Decker, the Lions' first-round pick in 2016, injured his shoulder during a non-contact practice
The Detroit Lions offense suffered a major blow this week, before the season even got underway.
Taylor Decker, the Lions' starting left tackle and 2016 first-round pick, underwent shoulder surgery on Monday. Lions coach Jim Caldwell announced the procedure when talking to reporters on Tuesday morning.

Decker sustained the injury that necessitated his surgery during a non-contact practice, Caldwell said. Caldwell also indicated that there is no timetable for Decker's return and that he does not know how long the second-year tackle, who started all 16 games during his excellent rookie season, will be out.
#Lions Jim Caldwell said Taylor Decker had shoulder surgery yesterday. Injured it last week in practice. Not certain how long he'll be out.

Caldwell, on whether the injury could last into the season: "Anytime you have surgery, you just don't know."

Caldwell did indicate that he does not expect Decker to miss the entire season, but also cautioned that he is not a doctor. As of this point, in-house options Cornelius Lucas and Joe Dahl are being considered to replace Decker in the lineup, but Caldwell indicated the Lions could look outside the organization for additional tackle help over the next few months as well.
