Once upon a time, Colin Kaepernick was a staple on the cover of magazines thanks to his ability to shred defenses with both his arm and his legs. Now he's back on the cover of a mag, but this time it's for his decision to protest the national anthem by standing or kneeling before 49ers games.

And now it's a rather notable mag, with Kap gracing the cover of the upcoming issue of TIME with the headline "The Perilous Fight."

TIME also released a video previewing the issue and the story (read here, subscription required).

In addition to the Kaepernick story, TIME also included multiple stories about the NFL and the anthem, including a first-person account of his decision to kneel by Dolphins linebacker Jelani Jenkins:

I am a 24-year-old African-American man who comes from a long legacy of people standing up for what is right. I do not have all of the answers and I certainly do not have a simple solution to these issues. By kneeling, I intended to stimulate meaningful dialogue and to raise awareness so that we will be able to find solutions to the problems that exist in this country.

What began for Kaepernick as a silent protest on the bench as a backup quarterback has quickly mushroomed into a national story that doesn't appear to be going anywhere for quite some time.
