  • Avalanche's Jarome Iginla: Bright spot in loss to Preds

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2:40 am ET) Iginla picked up a goal and an assist over just 12:32 of ice time in Thursday's 4-2 loss to Nashville.

This was minimal usage even by his standards; Iginla's average ice time is a modest 14:43, which is already a big drop from his heyday. Even with this nice game, he has just 18 points and a minus-19 rating over 60 games, so the 39-year-old winger looks like he's ready for retirement.

Avalanche's Jarome Iginla: Rare great game

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/4/17) Iginla was named the game's first star Saturday after a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win over Winnipeg.

The speed of today's game has left this guy behind, but Saturday was a good day for the some-day-soon Hall-of-Famer. Iginla is 39 years old and in the twilight of his career. He has 14 points in 49 games; eight of those points have come on the power play. It's kind of sad that his career has boiled down to this.

Avalanche's Jarome Iginla: Has another disastrous evening

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/18/17) Iginla was scoreless with zero shots on goal and a minus-4 in just 8:46 of ice time in Tuesday's 6-4 loss against the Blackhawks.

The 39-year-old veteran has just one goal and three points over the past 12 outings, and he has posted a minus-8 over his past three contests. Iginla was once one of the most feared snipers in the NHL during his time in Calgary, but his play lately resembles nothing from those halcyon days. It isn't even a good idea to use him in deeper fantasy leagues at this point, as his plus/minus has been brutal.

Avalanche's Jarome Iginla: Struggling with nine points this season

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/2/17) Iginla has only managed five goals and four assists through 36 games in 2016-17.

That's 21-point pace over a full 82-game season, which would easily amount to the lowest of Iggy's illustrious 20-year career. He's actually potted two of his five goals over the last seven games while firing 16 shots on net during that span, so he hasn't been completely dormant as of late, but Iginla is clearly past his prime at age 39. The fact that the Avs have the worst goal differential in the league (minus-45) certainly doesn't help his cause, either.

Avalanche's Jarome Iginla: Pots rare goal in shootout loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(11/27/16) Iginla found the back of the net in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Canucks.

It's just the third tally of the year for Iggy, who also snapped an 11-game goal drought. The 39-year-old also fired a season-high six shots on net and spent a hearty 4:41 on the power play in this one, which is an encouraging sign for owners still clinging to the former Flames superstar. Despite having an even rating and just five points on the season, Iginla has three points and a plus-six over his last six games, so he's definitely showing signs of improvement. Combine that with the fact that 20 of his total 42 shots on goal have come during that span, and he's probably one waiver-wire candidate worth keeping an eye on given his lengthy track record of success.

  • April 12, 2015: Avs' Iginla Scores Two PPG In Win
Iginla netted a pair of power-play goals in saturday's win over the Blackhawks. That's 29 goals and 59 points in 82 games for Iginla, who fell just shy of reaching the 30-goal and 60-point mark for the second straight season. The veteran finished the season strong and helped the Avalanche win three straight games to close out the season. At 37-years of age, Iggy's still got it.
