  • Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Grabs two assists Thursday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(4/7/16) Plekanec dished out two helpers in a 4-2 win over Carolina on Thursday.

The apples were the 39th and 40th of the year for Plekanec, who's also contributed 13 goals, 36 PIM and 187 shots on net. Despite it being a down season for just about everyone in Montreal, Plekanec's pace of 0.65 points per game is right in line with his career average of 0.66 across 842 NHL contests. That being said, his 13 tallies have fallen well short of last year's 26-goal showing, which has understandably disappointed some owners in 2015-16.

    Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Ends drought

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/25/16) Plekanec scored a goal in Thursday night's 4-3 loss to the Red Wings. He nearly had a second goal, but his first period score was waived off when he was whistled for cross-checking Detroit goalie Petr Mrazek.

The goal was Plekanec's first in 20 games. It's been a rough stretch for the 33-year-old Czech, who had just six assists, was minus-3, and won 45 percent of his draws during the 19-game drought. Plekanec's seasons has mirrored that of the team: he had 24 points through the first 25 games, when Montreal was 18-4-3, but has fallen off to just 23 points in the next 49.

Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Moves to point on power play

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(3/20/16) Plekanec was moved to the point on the power play for Saturday night's game against the Senators, the Montreal Gazette reports.

Adding a fourth forward to the power play did not turn out so well for the Canadiens, who allowed Ottawa to score three short-handed goals in a 5-0 loss. Plekanec, who's played the point before on the man advantage, said the alignment was the reason for the shorties. "We made a lot of mistakes," Plekanec said. "The puck jumped over a stick, we had a turnover, we were caught on a bad change and we didn't get back. It wasn't bad luck, it was mistakes and they made us pay." Saturday wasn't a good night for Montreal, a team that looks like they've given up on the season.

Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Churns out three points in win

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/10/16) Plekanec assisted on the game's opening goal, then scored twice to help deliver a 4-2 win over Tampa on Tuesday.

That's two huge explosions for Plekanec in a three-game span, as he ripped off four points Saturday against Edmonton, with a quiet effort against Carolina sandwiched in between. Even with Montreal's offense struggling on the whole, Plekanec is in the midst of a great season, on pace to clear 60 points for the fourth time in his career. Just think how good his stats would look if not for the 28-game stretch in which the veteran pivot accumulated only two goals and nine assists to go with a minus-13 rating -- a span that correlates closely to the absence of Carey Price (leg) from the lineup.

Canadiens' Tomas Plekanec: Has monster game Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/6/16) Plekanac was the first star of the game Saturday with a goal and three assists in a win over Edmonton.

Plekanec has been a disappointment this season as the goal was just his 10th of the year. The Canadiens have struggled mightily since goaltender Carey Price went down to injury and if they want to get back into the playoff race they will need Plekanec to have more games like he did Saturday afternoon.
