  • Canadiens' Al Montoya: Takes loss versus Blues

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/11/17) Montoya allowed three goals on 21 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Blues on Saturday.

This wasn't one of his better efforts, but overall, Montoya has bounced back from his awful performance versus the Blue Jackets in early November to post solid backup goaltender numbers. He owns a .926 save percentage and 2.27 GAA in the past 11 appearances since allowing 10 goals on Nov. 4. His overall numbers aren't as good as last season, but that should kind of be expected when one yields 10 goals in one game and has such a small sample size on the season (16 games).

Canadiens' Al Montoya: Facing Notes at home Saturday

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/11/17) Montoya will work between the pipes as Saturday's home starter versus the Blues, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

The team from St. Loo has rattled off three consecutive victories to gain some ground in a top-heavy Central Division -- they're currently in third place, albeit with a goal differential of minus-6. Montoya is coming off a shutout against the Oilers last Sunday, so he could be a highly targeted flier in daily fantasy formats on this busy 13-game slate.

Canadiens' Al Montoya: Pitches shutout in shootout loss

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/5/17) Montoya stopped all 32 shots he faced in Sunday's shootout loss to the Oilers.

Montoya was outstanding in regulation and overtime, but couldn't stop Leon Draisaitl in the shootout. The backup netminder will get credit for the shutout, which is his second of the season. Montoya was making his first appearance since Jan.20, but he's been solid when called upon. The 31-year-old is sporting a .915 save percentage and has helped earn the Habs at least a point in each of his last five games. Montoya is a reliable backup who's worth a spot start whenever Carey Price is given the night off.

Canadiens' Al Montoya: Named Sunday's starter

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2/5/17) Montoya will guard the crease Sunday against the Oilers, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.

Montoya's looks in the crease have decreased of late, but he's won each of his last four opportunities in goal. In those contests, he's posted a 2.49 GAA and .916 ve percentage, despite all of the starts coming on the road. Sunday represents just his second home start of the campaign, but he's made 41 saves in two appearances on the home ice sheet and hasn't allowed a goal there. He'll square off Sunday against an Oilers club that's lost three straight contests, scoring just three goals over that span.

Canadiens' Al Montoya: Earns road win in New Jersey

by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(1/21/17) Montoya turned aside 16 of the 17 shots he faced in Friday's 2-1 win against the Canadiens.

The Habs defense limited the Devils to a season-low 17 shots on net, which was great news for Montoya and his fantasy owners. While he only starts roughly once per week, he has been decent when called upon. The backup has won four consecutive starts since Dec. 29, and he has yielded a total of 12 goals over his past six appearances. He is a solid handcuff for Carey Price owners, and a decent addition for depth at the position in deeper fantasy pools.

April 2, 2015: Panthers' Montoya On Ice Before Practice Thursday
Montoya (groin) worked out with goaltending coach Robb Tallas and strength coach Tommy Powers before the Panthers' morning skate on Thursday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.Montoya still hasn't been a participant in practice and with how well Dan Ellis has played in Montoya's absence (4-2-1 with a 2.11 GAA and a .922 save percentage), Montoya may be the odd man out if he returns this season at all.
