Rousey vs. Holm reportedly set a record. (USATSI)

Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm's bout, which ended in a devastating KO loss for Rousey, reportedly broke a notable record.

According to SB Nation's MMA Fighting website, which cites "industry estimates," Rousey vs. Holm resulted in 1 million to 1.1 million pay-per-view purchases. In addition, 56,214 fans attended the fight in Melbourne, Australia.

Per SB Nation, this is the first UFC event that exceeded both a million PPV buys and 50,000 fans in attendance.

The previous attendance record: 55,724 fans attended Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields at the Rogers Centre in Toronto. As SB Nation's article notes, that fight resulted in a sellout while Rousey vs. Holm didn't sell out -- Etihad Stadium was just able to hold more people.

Those numbers make it clear why Holm will have to wait for a rematch with Rousey, who is still recovering from injuries she sustained during that fight, before stepping inside the octagon again. If their first fight pulled in those kind of numbers, imagine what kind of numbers the rematch will draw, as Rousey looks to exact revenge against the fighter who ended her unbeaten run.

Earlier this month, UFC president Dana White told the Los Angeles Times that "it's Rousey" next for Holm. White is targeting July 9, 2016 for the rematch.
