Allonzo Trier hasn't played for Arizona this season because of a failed test for performance-enhancing drugs, a source confirmed to CBS Sports.

Arizona is 16-2 without the sophomore guard, who confirmed the report in a statement, saying he was "shocked" when the positive test came to light and that he has "never knowingly taken a banned substance."

Trier has won an appeal with the NCAA but cannot play until the substance is completely out of his system, according to an earlier report from ESPN. Problem is, there's no way to know whether it will be next week or next month before the substance will be completely out of Trier's system, a source told CBS Sports.

The Wildcats resume Pac-12 play Thursday at USC.

They have 13 regular-season games remaining.

Trier, who averaged 14.8 points last season, is listed on Arizona's roster at 6-foot-5, 205-pounds. He was listed at 6-4, 185 pounds as a senior in high school.
