With a final second shot from Luke Maye on Sunday afternoon, North Carolina sunk No. 2 seed Kentucky in the Elite Eight to send the Wildcats packin’ for the season.

Losing in the final seconds is tough to accept as a competitor. It’s even more difficult to swallow when it leaves you just short of a Final Four appearance, and Wildcats freshman De’Aaron Fox showed his raw emotions after the game. The tears were flowing, and he didn’t hold back in front of the media with his fellow freshman Bam Adebayo consoling him.

“It was a hell of a season,” Fox said. “We went through that stretch where we lost all those games, and everybody tried to talk about how we looked like we ain’t caring. This isn’t a locker room that looks like guys don’t care. God, I love my brothers man,” he continued as he embraced Adebayo.

It’s emotional for Fox and Adebayo especially because both could be done with their playing careers at Kentucky if they opt to bounce to the NBA. But to do in a heart-wrenching fashion certainly piles on to the sadness for them in a 75-73 loss that came down to the wire and left them just shy of making it into that exclusive Final Four club.
