Houston is looking to maintain the positive momentum of Tom Herman's two-year tenure by making a strong hire after Herman left for Texas. The Cougars are looking for an experienced coach to take the reigns and have reportedly targeted Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin and former LSU coach Les Miles for the vacancy.

According to SB Nation's Steven Godfrey, the Cougars are starting their process quickly and have scheduled an interview with Kiffin on Sunday following Alabama's SEC championship appearance against Florida. Godfrey's sources also note that Nick Saban is supporting a Kiffin move to Houston to avoid him leaving for division rival LSU, which is pushing hard for Kiffin to leave for Baton Rouge to be the offensive coordinator with Ed Orgeron.

Kiffin is in his third season as Alabama's offensive coordinator, but was a head coach at three previous stops with Tennessee, the Oakland Raiders of the NFL and USC. If Kiffin were to be offered and accept the Houston job, it would be the second straight season that an Alabama assistant was hired away into a coaching position-- former defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was hired by Georgia last year.
