With Bri'onte Dunn dismissed, the Mike Weber era at Ohio State may be starting

Dunn was in the competition for the starting job to replace Ezekiel Elliott, now he may be the only competition

Ohio State's competition to replace Ezekiel Elliott just got a little easier.

Per a university release, Buckeyes running back Bri'onte Dunn has been released for violating team rules. Exactly what Dunn did to merit his dismissal wasn't specified.

Dunn rushed for just 287 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons in Columbus, Ohio, but he was in the conversation to be the starting running back in 2016. With Dunn gone, it would appear as though Mike Weber is in line to take the starting job. A redshirt freshman, Weber wowed Buckeyes fans during the spring game with 38 yards and two touchdowns.

Per Bleacher Report's Ben Axelrod, coach Urban Meyer may rely on Curtis Samuel to contribute to the running game as well. True freshman Antonio Williams could be asked to contribute right away as well.

With Dunn gone, I wouldn't be surprised to see Curtis Samuel take on a heavier load at RB to help Mike Weber replace Ezekiel Elliott.

Dunn was a fourth-year junior. After graduating in May, he can transfer somewhere else in the FBS with immediate eligibility.
