Lydia Ko trending so hot she's leaving Tiger Woods' win marks in the dust
Lydia Ko is probably going to go down as the greatest female golf ever
Lost in the Henrik Stenson-Phil Mickelson madness from Royal Troon is the fact that Lydia Ko won on the LPGA Tour ... again. This time, she took the Marathon Classic in four extra holes over Ariya Jutanugarn and Mirim Lee.
"It's been a fun week," said Ko. "I guess we had to play four extra holes for somebody to be holding the trophy, but Mirim and Ariya all had a great week, so it was hard to say someone deserved the trophy more than the others."
Ko is just 19 but with the victory she now has 14 wins on the LPGA Tour. I slapped together this chart that shows how she's tracking on a pace we've never seen before. Not from Tiger Woods. Not from anyone.
This chart shows how many wins each player had on his or her birthday. So Ko will have at least 14 wins on her 20th birthday (which is next April). Tiger had just 15 on his 24th (!) birthday.

Regarding Woods' 24th birthday: If Ko continues on her current pace, winning 17 percent of the events in which she plays, she would accumulate approximately 20 more wins by that age, giving her a 34-15 lead on Woods. (Tiger won 26 percent of events in which he played before his 24th birthday, a blistering pace.)
There's a caveat. Tiger didn't join the PGA Tour until he was 21 and then won 21 of his first 81 events. Ko has won 14 of her first 81. So while what she has done is impressive at a historic level, what Tiger did in the early 2000s was unfathomable. Tiger won 28 of his first 100 events as a pro; Ko needs to win 14 of the next 19 to match him.
Another caveat is that I'm counting two years' worth of Ko events which she played as an amateur. Why am I doing this? Well, I have to since she won twice as an amateur. Twice! Something Tiger never did.
No matter how you compare the two, it's clear both are great golfers and will go down as two of the best on their respective tours.
