MLB continues to investigate in South Florida area

Here's the latest on the Major League Baseball investigation into performance-enhancing drugs and the tie-in to South Florida, including the players mentioned earlier this week in the Miami New Times report, via Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com:

• MLB won't interview the players named in the report until it gathers information from its own investigation. MLB officials believe they have one shot at all involved and want to make sure they have a sure thing before going after anyone specifically. The league seeks definitive proof before going after anyone, which will be difficult to obtain.
• MLB is interviewing people in and around the University of Miami.
• MLB was already investigating issues in the area, so they have a bit of a head start. The New Times report, however, gives them firm ground upon which to continue investigating.
• Finally, there is no belief that any team can void a contract even if it wants to (cough, A-Rod, cough). The penalties for PED use are expressly laid out in baseball's drug agreement, which does not include any option to void a contract. Also, the Yankees are letting MLB handle things, so the thought (hope?) by many that Alex Rodriguez's contract could be voided continues to be extremely unlikely.
