Albert Pujols undergoes right foot surgery for the second straight offseason
Once again, Pujols right foot needed to be surgically repaired
For the second consecutive offseason, Angels first baseman/designated hitter Albert Pujols has had to undergo surgery on his right foot. Last year, the word was that it was to "alleviate pain near the arch of his right foot."
This time, the Angels say Pujols underwent surgery on his right foot to "release his right plantar fascia."
The estimated time frame for a return is four months, which gets Pujols to March. So, assuming a normal recovery time with no setbacks, his 2017 season won't be affected -- at least not in terms of him missing any games.
Still, this isn't exactly news the Angels needed right now. Pujols has had issues with his feet for the past several years and they don't appear to be subsiding any time soon.

Pujols hit .268/.323/.457 (114 OPS+) with 31 homers and 119 RBI last season. The three-time MVP has 591 career homers, and at 1,817 RBI seems a good bet to be the fifth man to ever reach 2,000 (after Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, A-Rod and Cap Anson).
Of course, Pujols will turn 37 next season and has bad foot problems. His contract has five years and $140 million left on it.
