LOOK: There was an official Home Run Derby on Lake Michigan
Batters tried to hit home runs over a buoy line that replicated ballpark dimensions
Monday afternoon, the Northwoods League held their annual Home Run Derby in Kenosha, Wisconsin. This was no ordinary Home Run Derby, however.
After receiving permission from the City of Kenosha, players took their hacks on a pier and hit balls into Lake Michigan. A buoy line was laid out to replicate the outfield dimensions of Simmons Field, home of the All-Star Game host team, the Kenosha Kingfish.

"The greater Kenosha community has truly embraced our team and deserves a special event like this," said Kingfish GM Jake McGhee in a statement when the Home Run Derby was announced. "We always want Kingfish fans to expect the unexpected and the Home Run Derby at the Harbor is just that. We are thrilled to bring this type of entertainment to Downtown Kenosha."
The Northwoods League is a prestigious collegiate summer wood bat league with 18 teams throughout the Midwest and Canada. Along with the Cape Cod League, the Northwoods League is where you'll find the best college players in the country and many future big leaguers.
