Even during the hot summer months, pitchers do whatever they can to keep their arms warm between innings. You often see pitchers wrapping their arms in towels in the dugout to stay loose. And, of course, many wear jackets when running the bases.

In an effort to capitalize on that niche market, Under Armour has patented a one-armed jacket for pitchers to wear while on the bases, reports Matthews Townsend of Bloomberg. It'll keep their arms warm without the fuss of having to wear a full jacket, allowing the rest of their body to cool.

Here's what the jacket will look like, per Bloomberg:

"It would be advantageous if the device could be used to keep a single arm and shoulder warm without the awkwardness of a full jacket," said the filing with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The paperwork also noted pitchers may sweat too much with a full jacket, making it difficult to grip the baseball.

The one-armed jacket seems like a really good idea, does it not? It's rather practical. The pitcher keeps his arm warm but gets to cool his body as well. They could even wear it in the dugout and avoid all the towel nonsense.

MLB would have to approve the jacket before players could wear it in games, of course. For now Under Armour has the patent, and that's only the first step in the process.
