Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain will throw two innings in an extended spring training game Saturday, The Star-Ledger reports.

Chamberlain said his injured oblique felt good after he threw Wednesday. The Yankees will wait to make their next move with Chamberlain until they see how the oblique reacts to Saturday's workload. He could be ready to return in about a week.

Yankees reliever Joba Chamberlain (oblique) could be ready to come off the disabled list toward the end of next week, according to ESPN. Chamberlain pitched during an extended spring game Wednesday and is expected to need a few rehab outings before activation.

"Felt good," manager Joe Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow." 

Chamberlain will make at least two rehab outings and won't come off the DL until next week at the earliest.

Manager Joe Girardi said he expects Chamberlain to make at least two rehab outings. He won't be off the DL until at least next week. 

"I don't know if it will be the weekend," Girardi said. "I think he'll probably do two turns, then we'll evaluate and make sure he's doing OK." 

Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain is nearing a rehab assignment after throwing a long-toss session Saturday, MLB.com reports.

"Everything's good," Chamberlain told MLB.com. "I'm just getting everything around it strong so we can get it done with and not let it linger. I'll continue to play long toss, throw a bullpen and get back going on rehab.

"To take a few extra days isn't the worst thing in the world," he said.

Chamberlain has a 3.86 ERA in 9 1/3 innings.
