Tigers' Ausmus: Joba better when the games really count
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Tigers reliever Joba Chamberlain has been far from perfect in four spring outings. He's allowed at least one hit in each of his appearances, at least one walk three times and has allowed four runs through four innings.

Still, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has little concerns about Chamberlain's spring performance.

"The higher the pressure, the better he is," Ausmus said Tuesday, per MLive.com. "That's not always going to work out, but the adrenaline makes Joba perform at a higher level.

"Joba was kind of like this a little bit in spring training last season. His velocity was a little bit lower. All the sudden, you get in the game in the regular season and it jumps up to 95 mph.

"It's certainly nothing to be concerned about. I think Joba is better when the games really mean something."

Tigers bullpen all but set for opening day
by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus is feeling confident about his pitching staff headed into the start of the season. So much so, that he's expecting six of the seven spots to already be taken by Joe Nathan, Joakim Soria, Bruce Rondon, Al Alburquerque and Joba Chamberlain, reports MLive.com.

"Those six, it'd be surprising if they weren't on the team," Ausmus said Friday morning. "Something strange would have to happen just based on their performances from the past."

This leaves Alex Wilson, Josh Zeid and Buck Farmer all battling for the final slot in the bullpen.

"You're always concerned about injuries," Ausmus said. "I think that's where the depth comes into play, where, if something unexpected comes up, we have a lot of arms we feel like can produce at the major league level. ... If something happens at any time, we feel that we have a quality arm that we can slide right in."

Tigers sign reliever Joba Chamberlain to one-year, $1M deal
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

The Tigers announced Tuesday they signed reliever Joba Chamberlain to a one-year deal. The right-handed hurler is slated to make $1 million in base salary and could total incentives worth $500,000, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

"We're not signing him to be the eighth-inning guy," general manager Dave Dombrowski said, per The Detroit News. "He gives (manager) Brad (Ausmus) some depth and helps organization over the long haul."

Chamberlain is back with the Tigers after pitching for them in 2014 -- his only season in Detroit after seven seasons with the Yankees. Chamberlain went 2-5 with a 3.57 ERA and two saves in 69 outings last season.

Report: Dodgers looking to add relief pitcher
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

The Dodgers remain in the market for a relief pitcher, FOX Sports reports.

The Dodgers have made a fair number of acquisitions to the bullpen already this offseason, in the form of pitchers signed to minor-league deals as well as via trade. It's possible that the team is looking to add an impact arm to cover a potential injury to closer Kenley Jansen, and former closers Francisco Rodriguez and Rafael Soriano remain without contracts. Notable nonclosers left on the free-agent market include righties Joba Chamberlain and Brian Wilson as well as lefties Sean Burnett and Phil Coke.
