Angels closer Ernesto Frieri picked up his 15th save of the season Friday against the Yankees, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning.

Frieri has blown just one save opportunity this season while posting a 2.89 ERA and 39:18 K:BB ratio. He has walked just one batter in 6 1/3 innings over his last seven appearances.

The Angels didn't expect to need closer Ernesto Frieri Saturday in Boston. Things changed after the Red Sox scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth in a 9-2 game.

Frieri took over the 9-5 contest and ended it with a strikeout for his 14th save. He needed seven pitches and lowered his ERA to 3.12.

The 27-year-old has recorded four straight scoreless appearances and has converted saves in seven of his last 10.

Angels closer Ernesto Frieri worked the ninth inning in a tie ballgame Wednesday at home against the Cubs. Frieri kept the game tied. 

He allowed a hit and a walk over 23 pitches, but pitched a scoreless frame to keep the score tied at five and headed into extra innings. His ERA is now at 3.16. 

Frieri had recorded saves in his previous four consecutive appearances and has gone three straight without allowing a run. That said, he's given up at least one baserunner in eight straight outings. 

Angels closer Ernesto Frieri struck out two batters in the ninth inning Tuesday night at home for a save against the Cubs. 

Albert Pujols gave the Angels the lead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning, and Frieri recorded his 13th save in the 4-3 win. 

Frieri gave up a hit in the inning and his ERA is at 3.28 on the year. He's recorded saves in four consecutive appearances, but did surrender two homers in one of those games. He's 13 for 14 in save chances.
