Alex Presley claimed by Astros
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Twins outfielder Alex Presley has been claimed by the Astros.

Presley was competing for the starting center field job with the club, but was beaten out by Aaron Hicks. Presley hit .276 in 185 at-bats between Pittsburgh and Minnesota last year. It's unclear what role he'll play with the Astros. The team designated Raul Valdes for assignment to make room for Presley.

Aaron Hicks 'probably' going to start in center field for Twins
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com

Twins manager Ron Gardenhire hinted Sunday outfielder Aaron Hicks will likely be the team's starting center fielder, per the Pioneer Press. Hicks is competing with Alex Presley for the starting job.

"Hicksie is probably going to be in center. He's running the ball down pretty good," Gardenhire said.

Twins assistant GM blasts center field combatants
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Twins assistant general manager Rob Antony lambasted both Aaron Hicks and Alex Presley as ineffective as they fight for the starting job in center field.

Hicks hasn't been anything special this spring," he said via the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. "Neither has Presley. There's your center field battle."

Antony might have been a bit harsh regarding Hicks, who has come in strong in recent days. He has lifted his batting average to a respectable .286.

Alex Presley hopes to maximize chance to grab starting job
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Alex Presley plans on starting in center for the Twins this season, but he understands that he's not a lock. He is competing for the job with one-time hot prospect Aaron Hicks, who suffered through a horribly disappointing 2013.

"I'm just trying to get better this spring and ... do what I need to do for the spring to be ready," he told MLB.com. "I need to be ready to be the starter."

The 28-year-old Presley played 28 games with the Twins after a trade with Pittsburgh last year. He batted .283, but has not shown the ability to steal bases in the big leagues that he has displayed in the minors.
