Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey threw an inning in a rehab appearance for Triple-A Pawtucket Saturday, allowing a run on two hits and striking out two.

Bailey remains on track to be activated Monday, ESPN Boston reports.

Red Sox manager John Farrell told The Boston Globe Thursday that Andrew Bailey will return to the closer role once he is back from the disabled list.

Bailey, who threw 15 pitches in a simulated game, is expected to make a minor-league rehab appearance Saturday at Triple-A Pawtucket before meeting with the team Sunday in Chicago. Bailey is expected to be activated prior to Monday's game against the White Sox.

The plan will then be for Bailey to meet the team Sunday night in Chicago and be activated before Monday's game against the White Sox.

Red Sox closer Andrew Bailey is slated to return Monday "at the latest," WEEI reports.

Bailey is expected to have a bullpen session Thursday, pitch in a rehab game Saturday and then return Monday if all goes smoothly. Bailey has been dealing with a biceps injury and hasn't pitched since April 28. 

Bailey is expected to take the closer's role back from Junichi Tazawa upon his return.

Red Sox reliever Andrew Bailey (biceps) was able to complete a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, the Boston Herald reports. 

Bailey, who reported feeling fine following the session, is scheduled to face live hitters during a simulated game Thursday. If that goes well, he could return to the Boston bullpen in the closer role by the early part of next week.
